Our sweet friend Ashley () () sent us these beautiful photos of a couple of Sandhill Cranes that she took near Rocky Mountain House!! 🌾❤️

A fun fact for you about Sandhill Cranes (courtesy of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology) is that the earliest Sandhill Crane fossil was discovered in Florida, and is estimated to be 2.5 million years old.

Wishing a very Happy (Milestone) Birthday to our beautiful Lori!! We were so happy to have the chance to celebrate you with so many great friends & family! 💜

If you’ve been into the store, chances are you’ve met Lori! She’s been with us at the store for almost 4 years now, but we’ve had the pleasure of knowing her for many more years than that. Not only is she an amazing and valued member of our Backyard Birds team, but she’s also a treasured friend and part of our family! We can’t imagine life without her.

Today we celebrated the life of cherished community member and bird lover, Leo Ulrich.

It was an honour to be a part of the celebration of his life. Leo was an amazing man. He was friendly, kind, generous, and he inspired everyone else around him to pursue their own passions. He loved the birds in his backyard, perhaps because he soared among them during his highly successful career as a pilot. He supported our store for many years, and we are so grateful for that. I am honoured to have had the chance to know him, and to know his family too. Sending love and hugs to all who were lucky enough to know Leo. ❤️‍🩹🕊️

Our beautiful, beloved Tora is now on maternity leave!! 🪺

Tora is such a valued member of our Backyard Birds family and we are going to miss her dearly for the next few months!! Tora is such a kind, creative, and authentic soul, and she is going to be the best mom to what we know will be an amazing nature-loving child.

We are beyond thrilled for her to begin this new journey, and truly can’t wait to meet her new baby bird nerd!! Congratulations, Tora! We love you dearly, and of course, still haven’t stopped crying. 🥹❤️🐣

We had an absolutely magical evening out at the Ellis Nature Centre Harvest Dinner Fundraising Gala! 🌾✨

Ellis Nature Centre just outside of Lacombe is truly a beautiful place, and they do some amazing work in connecting with the community and sharing the love of nature and birds with so many! Last night was a chance to support them to continue doing this important work.

We enjoyed an incredible fresh & local farm-to-table five course meal, prepared by Milly Oak Cafe, while being serenaded by live music from local band, Flat Iron Jazz. We had the best company, spending our evening with Elders Charlene & Russell Burns, as well as the lovely ladies from Blindman Brewing. 💕

As the sun began to set, the purple martins came out, and then we ended the night listening to a great-horned owl in the surrounding trails. I can’t think of a better way to spend an evening than surrounded by birds and nature with such kind and genuine people. If you’ve never been to Ellis Nature Centre, I really encourage you to make the trip. 🥰
