We have a (very) limited number of these stunning locally made yarn bowls from Lilypad Pottery. If you're looking for a gift for a knitter or crocheter (or just something special for yourself), make sure to pop by the shop soon, because these won't stick around!

Yarn bowls have a heavy bottom and a spot for your working yarn to be fed through so you aren't chasing yarn balls across the floor. Keep yarn tangles at bay in a beautiful way!

I personally love the flower cut-out design - so unique and I haven't seen it done like this before!

Week 3! If you're just joining us on The Great Canadian Make Along, you are not too late. Every week, we're giving away a new set of prizes. Just use Canadian Yarn and send us a picture. No need to finish your project during the makealong.

This week we're featuring Disdero Ranch, whose flock of BC raised sheep is extra special. Shepherdess Laurie Morris is a conservationist, ensuring heritage breeds are kept around for generations to come.

We love the jewel toned Bulky Romney, which is a softly spun lopi-style yarn, great for felted projects (like the ) or chunky sweaters.

An underappreciated yarn in the shop is the Moco and Como blends (maybe because they are only in natural colors, so they don't scream loudly). Instead, these softly spoken yarns are subtly luxurious. With a blend of mohair from Laurie's goats and Corriedale yarn, the resulting fabric is super soft, very springy, with a slight halo. Come and give it a squish - we would love to help you fall in love with Disdero Ranch, just like we have!

NESTING: learn to knit a baby hat with other new and expecting parents. Babies welcome! New knitters welcome! 👶 🪺

CABLES: learn the secret to creating those beautiful twisty textures in your projects. Practice a series of cables in a cabled headband project.

SOCKS: knit your first pair of socks, or learn a new sock method by starting from the toe up. 🧦

CROCHET: learn to Crochet a simple soft cotton facecloth. A useful first project that also makes great gifts.

Part 2 of our talk with Julie - what a joy to find people that share our ethos for business. The eternal struggle of small business: create value for your customers while protecting your business' bottom line...all while improving the lives of the people you work with. In the fibre industry, this line is razor thin, and we both struggle with finding that balance every day.

Week 2 is underway in The Great Canadian Makealong!

This week, we are featuring the fantastic Julie Asselin |Hand Dyed Yarns yarns from Sherbrooke, Quebec. Julie and her fibre arts partner Jean-François have a deep love for the craft that shows in their thoughtful fibre sourcing and yarn development. We had an incredible talk with Julie, and we can't wait to share it with you!

We carry Julie Asselin |Hand Dyed Yarns Nurtured (a squishy blended heather yarn in fine and worsted weight ideal for sweaters and shawls), Journey Sport (sleek and defined, made from the cousin of the Merino sheep), Boucle (an impossibly fluffy and textured yarn reminiscent of a muppet), and Douillet (a chunky yarn that is so cozy, you can't help but pet it).

Part 1: Meet Megan from Lichen and Lace!

We have carried Lichen and Lace from the very beginning of Sweet Threads - her innovative colors, minimalist packaging, and thoughtful use of fibres (especially eco-friendly options) have completely won us over.

It was lovely to chat with Megan about her business, her start in the fibre world and her thoughts about Canadian yarn. (I can't imagine opening a yarn store when the only knitter she knew was her grandma!! Talk about a leap of faith!)
