The winner of the 2025 Environmental Impact Award presented by GFL Environmental was awarded to Mother Made The Environmental Impact Award recognizes a business with an outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability. This business has tangibly reduced environmental impact, waste outputs, and energy use through improved efficiencies, programs, projects, processes, systems, technologies, employee engagement, or other business operations. It demonstrates community leadership through its sustainability initiatives and has a positive influence on the impact awareness of the business community.
Mother Made is more than a small business—it is a community-driven project rooted in sustainability, creativity, and impact. Every product is carefully handmade in Squamish, using 88% upcycled fabrics donated through Pearls, their local community donation centre.
In just one year, they sold over 1,500 reusable food pouches in Squamish. Each pouch replaces hundreds of single-use plastic bags, helping families reduce their environmental footprint. With an average lifespan of five years, their pouches create long-lasting change in daily habits, while addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time: plastic waste.
But their impact goes beyond the product. Mother Made contributes to the local circular economy, diverts textiles from the landfill, and creates meaningful work opportunities through collaboration and community partnerships.
Congratulations on your much deserved win!
