Canada goldenrod (Solidago canadensis) is a radiant autumn wildflower deeply valued in herbalism, rich in folklore, and tied to solar Magic

Latin Name: Solidago, meaning "to make whole" or "to heal".

Urinary & Kidney Health: A gentle, effective diuretic and astringent used to clear urinary tract infections, flush kidney stones, and ease fluid retention (avoid if heart or kidney failure causes severe edema).

Respiratory Support: Brewed into a warm tea to soothe sore throats, ease allergy symptoms (though wrongfully blamed for causing hay fever, which is actually triggered by co-blooming ragweed), and calm mild asthma.

Wound Care: Historically called "woundwort" or "woundweed" because crushed leaves staunch bleeding and heal skin irritations or burns. I love this. Ill remember this ❣️❣️❣️

Safety Note: Avoid if pregnant or breastfeeding, or if allergic to plants in the Asteraceae (daisy) family.

British and Appalachian folklore claims goldenrod acts as a natural divining rod; if the stalk bends toward the earth, it points to hidden underground water springs, buried gold, or silver. Oh going to try this for sure! My grandfather must have been a golden rod in another life he could find water anywhere.

The two friends: A classic legend tells of two young girls—one blonde, one blue-eyed—who asked a witch so they would never grow apart. They vanished, and in their place grew the goldenrod and the blue aster, forever paired side-by-side in autumn fields. This is why I did there post side by side. Let the friends be together!

American rural lore says that the exact number of weeks between the first appearance of goldenrod blooms and the first autumn frost is precisely six weeks.

A universal symbol of abundance, unexpected financial luck, and sudden prosperity. Finding it sprouting near a house is said to bless the household with good fortune.

Represents resilience, encouragement, and the golden warmth of late summer transitioning into harvest.

A star-shaped autumn bloomers rich in ancient folklore, gentle emotional healing, and protective magic.

The Star Connection: The word aster comes from the ancient Greek word for "star" (asteri). Legend says the Greek goddess Astraea wept tears of stardust onto the bare earth, and asters bloomed where they fell.

Love & Patience: In Victorian floriography (the language of flowers), asters represented deep love, patience, wisdom, and refinement.

Color Meanings: Purple symbolizes wisdom and royalty; pink means sensitivity and love; white represents purity

Hecate & Goddesses: Ancient Greeks and Romans wove asters into wreaths and laid them on altars to honor Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft, as well as Venus.

Folk tradition across Europe held that burning dried aster leaves created a purifying smoke that repelled negative energies, malevolent spirits, and venomous snakes.

Boundaries: You can use asters in spellwork focused on psychic protection, setting firm boundaries, and honoring the shift into the dark half of the year.

Chest & Heart: Energetically, wild asters (like the New England aster) are cooling and relaxing. Herbalists use them to soothe heavy grief, ease tightness in the chest, and soften strained breathing linked to sadness or heartbreak.

Often blooming alongside goldenrod, asters embody the vibrant, late-season medicine of the autumn equinox.

On May 23, 1829, Austrian inventor and instrument maker Cyrill Demian (along with his sons) was officially granted the very first patent for the accordion in Vienna, Austria. He named his invention after the German word "akkord," which translates to chord.

History of the Patent

The Filing: Demian and his sons presented the new instrument to the authorities for a patent on May 6, 1829. This earlier date is celebrated globally by the music community as World Accordion Day.

The Approval: The patent was officially finalized and granted 17 days later on May 23, 1829, which is considered the official birthdate of the instrument.

The Design: Demian's original design was a small, portable box with bellows. Instead of individual melody notes, each of the five keys played an entire chord, allowing beginners to easily accompany singers or play simple tunes.
