Baby’s first modelling gig 😂

This is another pattern included in the upcoming book - I wanted to make something inspired by Puffins without it simply being a puffin on a hat. So I used a fair isle inspired pattern combined with puffin colours and a tassel and voila!

Puffins are iconic in Newfoundland, but these adorable little birds can actually be found on both sides of the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. So bringing in elements from other knitting cultures is also a way to represent that connection of the North Atlantic.

Philip graces the cover yet again!

Every now and again, I’ll be walking through a book store and I’ll see the first book NL Knits for Little Ones. It’s this surreal moment of seeing my own book, but also seeing 18 month old Philip playing at the beach which simultaneously feels like yesterday and so long ago.

Just like in the first book, I wanted to have the option for cute matching sets for the accessories! In Little Island Knits all the hats and mitts have sizing for kids and their grown-ups!

I’m also very pleased to have Debbie & Elizabeth provide the yarn support for this pattern (pictured in the child’s size). Knit in their chunky weight yarn, this hat knit up super quick and it shows the pattern wonderfully!

One of the best parts of doing this second volume of knits for kids is that I didn’t have to do it alone! I got to work with the marvellous Shirley Anne Scott (AKA Shirl the Purl) and I’m so fortunate to have FOUR of her stunning patterns included.

Also, I think she likes the colour red ❤️
