The Prison Guitar, as featured in last month's Newsletter:

Here is one of the most unique instruments to come through the shop doors: an acoustic guitar made by inmates of Her Majesty’s Penitentiary. We first laid eyes on it when it was brought down to the store by the gentleman who designed and assembled it with the help of another prisoner. He explained that he went through the effort of creating it so that he had something to play while serving time. He used wood from old pieces of furniture to construct the body, neck, and the interesting elongated head stock. A plastic cafeteria tray was used to cut out the white pickguard, while the fretboard, bridge and tuning machines were harvested from an old guitar that was no longer playable. Not only does the guitar play well; it stands as a testament to how craftsmanship and ingenuity can flourish even under the harshest conditions.
