New artisan alert! ✨ We are thrilled to welcome Lily Bartlett — the artisan behind Little Bee Papers — to Quidi Vidi Village Artisan Studios! 🐝📜

Lily Bartlett is an artist from Paradise, Newfoundland. She started making paper in 2020, after stumbling across a video explaining how to recycle paper by hand. After falling in love with the craft, and making too many sheets of paper to use herself, she started making journals, envelopes, cards, gift tags, even paper bead earrings. She continues to experiment with different materials to make into paper, such as repurposing cotton scraps or using plants! Being an artist with a background in chemistry, paper making gives her the perfect balance between creating art and doing science.

You can now find Lily in her studio at QVVAS! We can’t wait for you to meet her! 👋

Today we want to wish Stephen of Modjūl — one of our longest running artisans — mountains of good luck and a fond farewell as he moves on from Quidi Vidi Village Artisan Studios and on to his next big endeavour — a brand new larger shop & studio in downtown St. John’s! 🎉

You won’t have to wait long to visit Modjul! Stephen has already settled in the his brand new studio on the third floor of Posie Row on Duckworth Street. You can find him just across the hallway from one of our other alumni, Wooly Tops 🐑

On behalf of all of us at the studios, we want to thank Stephen for sharing his incredible work with us. His dedication to his craft and resilience inspires us everyday! We are so excited and extremely proud for him and his next chapter! 💙

Today, we want to wish Kateryna of CREMEL Handmade good luck and goodbye as she moves on from Quidi Vidi Village Artisan Studios and onto her next chapter! 📒🌊

Kateryna Melanych is a mixed‑media bookbinder with Ukrainian roots. She arrived in Canada in 2022 and continued the craft she loves most: making hand‑bound journals that feel personal, tactile, and connected to the world around her.

Local culture, traditions and nature inspire Kateryna the most. Some of the covers for her journals use illustrations on her own photographs whilst others incorporate dried leaves and flowers picked on her hikes, making the landscape become part of each piece. Through paper, imagery, and natural materials, she reimagines stories from her new home.

At the heart of her practice is a simple belief: journaling helps us live more fully. Kateryna sees a journal as a place to hold milestones, small victories, and the challenges that shape us on our paths. Every book she makes is created with an intention to slow down, reflect, and keep your story close.

Kateryna continues to create her beautiful handmade journals and you’ll still be able to catch her and her products at various markets and shops around St. John’s (including our in-house shop)! 🛍️ Stay up-to-date on what she’s up to through her Instagram —
