Some great shots of this year’s trip to Fogo Island. This was our fourteen visit to the island since I was swept away by its magic upon our first visit way back in 2018.
Between the co-op, the inn and everything in between, this place is both beautiful and resilient and shows how community matters more than anything else. The strength of the people here are un matched. It’s the people that make a place remarkable and Fogo Island is full of some of the most lovely and hard working human beings you will ever meet. We are so fortunate to have spent so much time here. The studios offer so many opportunities to a large variety of artists. Shore fast has done an incredible job. Throwing it back to 1930’s era Quidi Vidi Road on this beautiful summer evening. The street has changed a lot but at the same time stayed very similar to how it was almost 100 years ago. The once had a farm on Signal hill. In this photo the Halliday children are seen walking down the road with a couple of cows. A single car can be seen parked on the road, which would have been quite the big thing to see on the street. It’s amazing to see how this end of the road has virtually stayed the same over the years housing wise. A drive down Quidi Vidi Road in 1978… What a different time to say the least. Old St.John’s had so many characters and little places in the wall. Quidi Vidi Road was no different. So much has changed since then but at the same time so much has stayed the same. Ray bought the shop back in 1997 and before it was Quidi Vidi Pewter it was many other things. The shop had the original false front and some rather ugly siding at the time. There have been a lot of different shops and restaurants on Quidi Vidi Road over the years. From one of the original Peter’s pizza locations, to tv repair shops and more. What do you remember being on Quidi Vidi Road over the years? I can remember there being a video rental store when I was a kid , as well as other businesses that have since come and gone... Belbin’s had quite the grand entrance to the store back then as well. Very different than today’s. One of the most charming and lovely streets in the city. Quidi Vidi Road sure is a special place. 📸Credit: Glen Power retro Newfoundland
