Hi! I’m Julie ( the one on the left) and Logan & Finley is my business. This is one of my favourite pictures from our 5th Anniversary and my parents were visiting for the party. I think Logan & Finley generally has had a pretty good party for our anniversaries, but this one was my favourite. I had a really great team at the time who were running the shop so I got to socialize with all the familiar faces, many who had had to navigate Toronto road closures from the Santa Claus parade to get there.

Skip ahead to this week, almost 9 years later and I’m in a shop in a new place where I observe some confusion on faces when I refer to a style being a customer favourited style from past seasons and realizing that my “story” doesn’t add up to the first time visitors who are visiting a “new” store. Enter one of my many “aha” moments where I realized that my storytelling- which many would say is a strength - has not done a good enough job lately.

Yes, my store in St Marys is new -we opened at the end of February- but my business is not new. Logan & Finley opened in November of 2012 and we will be celebrating our 14th Anniversary this November.

I chose, for many reasons, to close my Toronto shop and move myself and Logan & Finley to St Marys and I’m very grateful to those of you who have discovered the shop already and made me feel welcome. I am also very grateful to my Toronto customers for supporting my decision and still supporting my business both from day trips and online .

I look forward to meeting those of you who I haven’t met and welcoming you to my shop. We specialize in natural fibre stylish and sustainable clothing for women and some other everyday products that focus of sustainability too. You get great quality products, with personalized service from a seasoned professional. Come on in for a browse!

I am a big fan of Fall. I could provide a list of all the things I like about it, but I certainly don’t want to rush through the last couple of weeks of Summer - that’s for sure. But I do think there’s an apple treat I might indulge in later today .

But when I plan things for the shop for this time of the year, I do my best to offer ( from what’s available) lots of options that you can wear right now. I know not everyone likes to plan their wardrobes too far in advance. While I hear you n that, I have two things for you to consider:

1/ not everyone feels the same way you do. Some like to shop as soon as the new arrivals hit the shop and so, you might like to think about considering your wardrobe sometime mid September to mid October while there is lots of style and size selection.

2/ and this really should have been one. One of the things that we promote at Logan & Finley is a multi season wardrobe. Our speciality is natural fibre clothing, that’s great quality and timeless in its style AND we think versatility is really important. The items you wear the most, generally not only become your favourite go to pieces, but they generally have the lowest cost/wear.

So many of our best selling styles are ones you can wear almost all year long - like this dress, or the short sleeve blouse. Both are great wear right now styles that also layer well when needed. Both can get dressed up when needed. Both are comfortable and stylish. You get it - we put a lot of thought into our selections and can’t wait for you to experience them and find what’s suits you best.

“I’m looking for a lightweight jacket for this time of the year”

This is one of the jackets I suggest when I get this request. It’s a denim coat - but it can be worn like you would wear a denim jacket too. . It’s a blend of organic cotton and recycled cotton with just a touch of stretch and it’s designed to be a cot - so it fits a little bigger than a denim jacket, so you can layer under it and button it up as needed.

Have you ever seen a chrysalis and then a brand new butterfly emerge? I had the opportunity to help this brand new butterfly fly off into the world and it was so ready and we were all so focused on it, that we didn’t even get an action shot. Thanks to our lovely cottage neighbour who offered me this special experience.

There’s something that always fascinates me about nature and spending the last week outside enjoying some lovely summer weather was just what I needed.

I’m back and the shop is open regular hours this week.

Our first event of the Fall promises to be a great one. And we hope you will book a ticket and join us!

Have you ever wondered how to get your wardrobe ready for the next season? How to build a personalized capsule wardrobe? How to figure out your style? How to figure out what colours suit you best. When to consider alterations?

We have you covered! Joining us for the evening are Ingrid, from Stonetown Alterations and Darcy, from Dress with Darcy and we will share our best tips and tricks of the trade. I will share my expertise on editing your wardrobe and building a personalized capsule wardrobe, Darcy will share how a colour consultation works and demonstrate on a model, how choosing your best colours will help you feel really great in your clothes and Ingrid will share how an alterations consultation works and demonstrate on a model how alterations can make your favourite clothing fit you the best.

We will have refreshments and if you decide to stay after and do some shopping, you will receive a gift with purchase.

We will also draw for two prizes: one workshop attendee will win a Colour Consultation with Dress with Darcy and another attendee will win a gift card to use at Stonetown Alterations.

“I could sleep in my jeans”

This is something I heard a couple of weeks ago from a customer when I asked how she was enjoying her new clothes.

And this is your invitation to come in and try on some jeans. I know it takes the right day to feel like trying on jeans, but I think it’s worth taking the time. They are one of the things people wear the most and finding jeans that are comfortable and cool is actually possible. We have several options in natural and sustainable fibres in a variety of cuts & we’re ready to help when you are.

There’s something about September that feels like the start of a new year. Maybe it’s that I am a September baby, so it actually is a new year, or maybe it’s all the years of it being the start of a new year at school, but I found a bunch of quotes I have on one of my journals and thought I would share. I wish I could share the credit with those who wrote them, but I have paraphrased them over the years so I will just say a general thanks, for the inspiration they have given me over the years.

“It must be so much fun unpacking all the new things”

This is a comment I hear pretty frequently when new things arrive. And they’re not wrong. Not completely.

But the part I actually think is fun, is the part where I get to see it on you. And I saw this jacket on someone yesterday and it looked amazing.

When I look at the samples and imagine how each style might work, it takes quite a bit of imagination- so what’s the most fun for me is seeing each item IRL unpacking, pitting it on display and then introducing it to you is the best part.

So let me introduce this jacket to you - it’s organic cotton and it’s a denim jacket, but it looks quite dressy on - almost a blazer, almost a shirt - will be a great layer for 3 seasons and I think an especially good for travel.
