Well I thought we had requeened the weaker hive and there were signs but we still have yet to find her and the brood is diminishing 😞 we did find a charged supercedure cell tonight so my hive is once again on lock down. It’s late in the season but here’s hoping it works out. We had hopes of a bit of honey from the stronger hive, added a honey super last week but they don’t seem to want to draw any comb on the frames despite waxing them… we sprayed the frames lightly with sugar water to hopefully entice them. They have a week to do so, otherwise the super will be pulled and we will try for honey next year.

Went out to fix up the hives today after what we saw last time. Today we transferred a brood frame from the strong hive into the weaker hive and also removed the second brood box because they are not strong enough to fill it before winter, they haven’t finished drawing comb on the frames in the first box yet. The strong hive however, has gotten an upgrade with a honey super! We may get a little honey this year! We have to wait a few days for them to draw out some comb on the new frames and then we will add the queen excluder. Such an exciting experience this has been!

Went to feed my bee friends after supper. Trying to help out my weaker hive. So happy to see the brood coming along nicely in that one since we just got a new queen. My stronger hive is growing leaps and bounds. Adding a medium box this week to give them some more room. Also planning to transfer a frame of brood from the stronger hive to the weaker hive.

Well we waited to see if our new queen would emerge and last night we found her! We also realized we made a mistake and had to fix it. Our little bee friends started making wild comb because they don’t like drawing out on plastic frames, so we had to remove the it and wax the frames with bees wax. Always learning😊

Hive check today! Still missing a queen but we have spotted a few supersedure cells so they are doing what they are supposed to do. Now we wait. No more inspections until July 10 so we can have the best chance of getting a new queen!! The other hive is doing fantastic. We also place some sugar water feeders to help them with drawing out new comb. And no stings today 😁

Checking on our friends tonight. Found a queen, hopefully the other one was just under the piles of bees. Found some capped honey 🍯 had visitors in the field that Hattie scared away 😞 And Mike got the first sting of this adventure 🥺

Started a new adventure and added some new friends to the family. Introducing the Steven hive and the Paul hive. A big thanks to Heather and Kylee Hebbes for allowing us to use a little bit of their land, and Bow River bees for the nucs. Can’t wait till the honey starts flowing!

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted so let me tell you what’s going on. You may notice the name change. Well I’m branching out my talents and trying my hand at making soap so I figured a new name was in order. Not to worry, I still have my crochet goodies and bracelets and the like. So please share and hopefully I will have some soap to add in 4-6 weeks once it’s cured!!
