someone came in the other day to sell some og american apparel. i said, woah what a throwback. he said he used to work there. so did i, i said. robson st. it wasn’t until he said “va6” (iykyk) did something awaken in me.
i always thought that if i ever heard someone ask us if we have any glitter tights or disco pants in, i’d kms. i always thought that if rewind started to carry sneaker wedges and cheap monday skinny jeans (i used to replace my super-skinnys every 6 months at ha), i’d locate the highest bridge.
but what actually is happening to me, is quite the opposite.
in the same way i’m thinking this is how my mum felt when she first saw me rep s*x pistol tees and cherry docs, i’m starting to feel the same sorts of somethings (my age, for one (gulp)). maybe there might have been an urge to gatekeep here, but hell no. me, rewind, and everyone in it, are all in as mainstream fashions move from y2k (which we still v much love, of course) into indie sleaze, hipster beat. (rewind already has plenty on its floors)
so from the mouth of millenial zad right here and now: i can’t wait to see what y’all do with it
here’s a glimpse into what-the-hell-were-we-doing images of vancouver party life a generation ago. (bonus pic of sh****ad me circa 2009 xoxo)
