The Late Season Garden…🌾

Large bright cone flowers give way to soft grassy plumes, rich foliage colour and waning mid-season stand-outs. Hydrangeas take on a vintage, dusty rose hue and the bees hover around the mauve Allium and blue Caryopteris.

Folks often ask which season is my favourite in the landscape. I exclaim, “How could I ever choose?!” or “All of them!” - but if I really sit with the question, my answer is invariably the late season garden. Its transitional manner is frenzied and subtle at the same time - like it’s squeezing in all the beauty it can before the quiet of winter.

As I refresh our display areas, I feel equal amounts of serenity and excitement for the arrival of fall. 🍂

The City of Surrey has announced that they will be remaining at Stage 2 water restrictions, as the construction on the Stanley Park water supply tunnel does not affect our water supply.

What does this mean for you?:

✔️ Using sprinklers on garden beds (trees, shrubs, flowers) is permitted any day between 5 am and 9 am
✔️ pressure washing and washing cars is permitted with handheld hoses
✔️ Watering edible plants is permitted at any time
✔️Filling and topping up pools and hot tubs is permitted
✔️ Watering new landscape projects as a condition of a permit or other regulatory requirements is permitted

❌ Watering lawns is prohibited (unless a sprinkling permit has been issued)

Despite the lawn watering prohibition, we are relieved that we will not be moving into Level 3 restrictions. We cannot underestimate the importance of our green infrastructure and the specialized services our industry has to offer.

As always, we are here to offer helpful advice and tips for efficient watering techniques to both our contractors and retail customers. We also have a variety of drought tolerant plants and can discuss long term landscape viability.
