Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday for Open Farms! This was probably the largest crowd we have had on the farm to date! Big thanks to Tourism Windsor Essex for creating this fantastic day connecting our community with local farms.

There were so many new faces young and old who came to support not only us but over a dozen farms across Windsor-Essex.

Our newest additions to the farm arrived yesterday! Meet Mocha and Latte this Saturday, along with our laying hens and rabbits!

This weekend we will open the farm up for tours, education and conversations around what it's like to run a working farm. All ages are welcome to this free family event!

Happy Manual Labour Day Weekend!

It seems every holiday weekend my to do list is longer than my arm, we are working away this weekend getting the farm ready for new arrivals and Open Farms next Saturday September 12th from 10am-2pm.

Our chickens, rabbits and baby goats will be on display for everyone to come meet, pet and learn about life on a working farm. Don't miss this great event brought to life in part by Tourism Windsor Essex this is a great excuse (as if you needed one) to tour the county and see all this incredible area has to enjoy!

Just like the sign says we've got you covered for farm fresh eggs, chicken, rabbit, beef, pork and more! If we don't raise it ourselves we source it locally from other incredible farmers where we see the quality, know the story and trust the hardwork they put into their products.

We had one heck of a storm yesterday afternoon!

Thankfully we made it through with minimum damage but the strength of mother nature once again has us in awe. This area of Maidstone has been notoriously tornado alley for as long as I remember my family and neighbors telling twister like stories.

We will wait until the official word from Environment Canada rules out exactly what went through but I'm certain something major came our way yesterday.

The farm store will reopen this morning Friday, for our regular 10am-5pm. We did a big beef & pork restock and we have lots of chicken for the grill or roasting pan as well!

The neighborhoods favourite lady and everyone's favourite coffee is back in stock! After what seems like a lifetime we were finally able to get a restock thanks again to Marietta's Daily Delights working tirelessly to get our order to us as they prepare for their grand opening of a new store.

Stop in today, Thursday 12pm-5pm grab some steaks for the weekend and a bag to enjoy as the kids get on the bus next week!

Did you know our laying hens live completely "off grid" ?

Earlier this spring we constructed a chicken barn that requires zero electricity from the grid. Indoor lighting comes entirely from solar. We do of course bring our hens fresh water twice daily and make sure they have plenty of high protein, and high calcium feed in front of them to produce farm fresh eggs.

We also give our rabbits waste hay to the hens so they can eat anything our rabbits may have skipped. We are still deciding what we will do to keep this building warm enough for our hens this winter but they are unbelievably hardly as long as they have ample natural, deep bedding and fresh warm water, plus a winter balanced ration.
