One project, three different solutions for small imperfections and voids.

First up - an imperfection in the clear epoxy. Cleaned out the air bubble with a small drill bit and filled it with CHILL EPOXY™ Chill Fix, a fast curing epoxy

Second - a couple voids along the live edge. Poor candidates for a liquid epoxy, but perfect for Chill’s P-Tech wood filler, a two part putty type epoxy.

Third - various little cracks, checks or pinholes in the wood. Filled with InstantBond CA Glue. Liquid enough to pe*****te, then instantly cured with the spray on activator.

We have nearly 1,400 live-edge slabs and unique pieces available in more than 20 species—from charcuterie-board stock to mantels, countertops, tables and oversized slabs.

Every piece is individually photographed, measured and priced at www.bigassslabs.ca, so you can browse before making the drive.

We’re open Friday from 9–5 and Saturday from 9–2, just east of London near Thamesford. Whether you’re ready to buy or only starting to plan, you’re welcome to stop in, look around and talk through your project.

One of the features of live edge slabs is that they can sometimes be lively! Unlike dimensional lumber the is milled and graded for clear and straight grain, live edge is valued for the movement in its grain. In wider slabs grain can be going in several directions, as well as being influenced by knots and other imperfections that impart instability into the wood compared to its straight dimensional cousins. Add in differing materials such as epoxy and the need to add additional structure arises. On this table I’ve added 4 c-channels and the two legs with their mounting plates to help ensure that the table top remains flat and true through the years.
