🍂❄️ Cold weather isn't here yet — and that's exactly why now is a good time to think about your pet's joints!

If you have a senior pet, a large-breed dog, a very active pup, or a pet who has already shown some mobility concerns, September can be a good time to take stock of how they're moving.

Are they still:

🐾 Getting up easily?
🐾 Jumping into the car without hesitation?
🐾 Enjoying their usual walks?
🐾 Going up and down stairs comfortably?
🐾 Keeping up with their usual activities?

If you've noticed changes, don't just chalk them up to “getting older.” ❤️

A veterinarian can help determine what's going on and whether things like weight management, exercise changes, medication or joint-support supplements might be appropriate.

And if joint supplementation is recommended, there are several different options available—including products containing ingredients such as glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and omega-3 fatty acids.

At Ruffin's Tillsonburg, we carry joint-support options and can help you take a look at what's available.

🦴 The goal isn't to wait until your pet is struggling. It's to keep an eye on them and support their mobility throughout every season.

Does your pet have a favourite fall activity? 🍂🐕 Tell us what they love doing!

The weather is changing, and that means it's time to take a look at where your feathered friend spends their day!

🐦 Check for drafts

As temperatures drop, make sure your bird's cage isn't sitting directly beside a drafty window, exterior door or heating/cooling vent.

🌡️ Watch for temperature changes

Birds can be sensitive to sudden changes in temperature, so try to keep their environment comfortable and consistent rather than moving them between dramatically different temperatures.

☀️ Think about daylight

The days are getting shorter! Your bird's sleep schedule still matters, so make sure they have a quiet, appropriately dark place to rest at night.

🧸 Refresh their enrichment

As everyone spends more time indoors, this is a great time to rotate toys, add appropriate enrichment and make sure your bird has plenty to do.

👀 And give them a once-over!

Changes in appetite, activity, droppings, feathers or behaviour can sometimes be signs that something isn't quite right. If you notice something unusual, talk to your veterinarian.

🍂 A few little checks now can help keep your feathered friend comfortable as we head into the cooler months!
