Bidding is open now through Sunday June 28th in our current auction at 4thmoon.ca, and this 1978 Regal Toys plush Chewbacca from Canada is one of the highlights.
In Canada, Kenner licensed the plush Chewbacca to Regal Toys, a company with better specialization in plush. The two look similar at first glance, but the differences are there if you know what to look for.
The bandoleers canisters are a good first clue. Regal ones were never taped down. Kenner examples almost always show tape or tape residue. Tag placement is the second thing to check: the bilingual French and English content tag on the Regal sits on the hip and to the side, while on the Kenner it is up at the neck. The Regal also runs about half an inch taller, and the detailing is a little rougher overall.
These were made in far smaller quantities than the US Kenner version. Finding one with the original Regal tag is close to impossible. This one has it. Check it out at 4thmoon.ca.
