We’ve had such a busy week, thank you!

Lots of Rosh Hashanah orders, building 90 bouquets for Toronto Flower Market this Saturday, a bridal shower and flowers for a TV show that I might not get to tell you about for like 2 years 🙊

Next week is our busiest week of the year and with that I do have to notify you of a decision that was hard to make. Next week, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, our shop is going to be closed for in store shopping, pick ups and grab and gos. We need to focus on a heavy week of production for our events, but are still taking orders for deliveries. We will reopen Friday and then we’re open all weekend too!

Confession time…

I haven’t used flower foam since 2020 and lately I’ve been thinking about how much easier it would be if I just…did.

The extra stress of water sloshing about in transit, greater ability to have stems going in more angled directions and a situation that keeps coming up time and time again “can you design them in the green sponge so we can just take the flowers and leave the vase at the end of the night?”

That last one keeps getting me. If there is one place floral foam can surely be eliminated, it’s the centrepieces. Yes it’s extra work to remove the stems and leave the vase, but a part of my design process is trying to not use foam to reduce waste, allow for reusing mechanics (we reuse chicken wire over and over) and also protect ourselves from toxic materials. The floral industry is wasteful, full of chemicals and don’t even get me started on the plastic. Any small step I can take makes a difference.

I would never shame anyone for using it because it honestly is an amazing design tool. If a project or design concept came to me that was really speaking to me and I just can’t conceptualize how to build it without it, or due to logistical constraints, I think I would dabble again.
