Have you ever wondered why your embroidery scissors are shaped like storks? Sure they’re sharp and beautiful to look at, but what’s the story?

It goes something like this… the first ever stork scissors were created in the 19th century and were used by midwives to stop blood flow in a newborn baby’s umbilical cord after birth.

Plus, back then there wasn’t much to do while waiting around for a baby to be born, so midwives would often keep their birthing kit and embroidery kit together so they could easily access both!

Gobelin fabric is a thick, durable, and highly decorative jacquard-woven textile featuring intricate, often multicolored, repeated patterns that imitate historical handmade tapestries. Originating from 17th-century French tapestries, modern versions typically use cotton or polyester blends for upholstery, cushions, and sometimes even apparel.
