Renanthera pulchella, a stunning orchid native to Southeast Asia

🌡Temp: Intermediate to hot (☀️23-32°C/🌑16-22°C)
💧 Water: Quick Wet/Dry cycle. Water heavy when dry, requires full dryout
☁️Humidity: 50%+ ideal, up to 95%+, require higher if bareroot. Lower if potted
💡 Light: ;Bright, Medium to High ;SouthEast exposure.& ; Suggest to avoid the brightest 1-2 hours of the day in summer, maximize direct light in winter
🌰 Media: Bareroot or ;chunky bark/phal mix. Ensure it can dry out fully within 4-7 days or less. Faster 100% wet to 100% dry cycle is best.

🌸 Phalaenopsis ‘Chiada Stacey’ 🌸

A charming Phalaenopsis hybrid known for its delicate flowers and compact, easy-growing habit. Phalaenopsis, commonly called the moth orchid, originates primarily from tropical and subtropical Asia and is one of the most popular orchids for growing at home.

🌱 At home: Give it bright, indirect light, warm temperatures and good humidity. Water thoroughly when the roots have begun to dry, and avoid letting water sit in the crown.

🪴 Terrarium friendly: Its compact size and appreciation for humidity make it a lovely choice for a warm, well-ventilated terrarium or orchidarium. Just make sure there is plenty of airflow around the leaves and roots.

This is one of those thin-stem Encyclias that looks almost like it’s floating. Small flowers (around 3 cm), lots of space, and that airy, wiry inflorescence that keeps going.

It’s also a really nice candidate for a bright terrarium setup, since it stays miniature and doesn’t visually overpower everything around it (just keep airflow in mind).

Collector nerd note: this name gets mixed up in cultivation with *Encyclia xipheres* (a mainland lookalike). The tell people point to is the pedicel/ovary: *nematocaulon* is described as smooth, while *xipheres* is warty/spiny.

☀️ Light: Bright (it can take more light than a Phal)
💧 Water: Wet to dry cycles, don’t keep it constantly damp
🌡️ Temps: Warm to Hot

This one throws big, heavy flowers and the colour reads RED even from across the room. Up close it’s a mix of dense red freckling over yellow margins, with a hot pink/purple centre. Red is a more rare colour to come by in the Orchid gene pool. As it matures it'll give you many more flowers

🧬 Cattleya alliance

This is a complex hybrid as well. A mixture of genetics so it is robust and beginner friendly. so you’re not chasing a finicky species here. It’s built to grow, and it throws a very clean, saturated red with that hot orange/yellow flare in the throat.

Treat it like modern Cattleya lane: brighter light than a Phal, let it dry a bit between waterings, and don’t keep the roots packed wet.

🧬 Laeliinae (Cattleya alliance)

This is a complex Cattleya alliance hybrid, so you get that classic big-flower look with a bit more vigour and consistency than a lot of straight species.

Colour on this one is the whole point: flat, saturated red across the segments, with a hot orange/yellow flare in the throat and a darker, ruffled lip.

This one is all about the pattern. Up close it’s fine striping and speckling, and from a few feet back it reads like a solid hot pink bloom.

The lip is oversized and busy, so even when the petals fade a bit with age, the face still looks sharp.

Brassocattleyas are one of the easier ways into the Cattleya alliance. A lot of them grow fast, make a fuller clump sooner than the classic big Cattleya types, and once established they can throw blooms more than once a year.

On this clone the patterning and intensity of the colour is magnificent: rusty speckling across the segments and that hot magenta edge on the lip.

☀️ Light: Bright direct medium light
💧 Water: Wet to Dry cycles, keep slightly moist only with active new growth
🌡️ Temps: Intermediate to Warm
☁️ Humidity: 30–40%+ is ideal
