An oil a day keeps the doctor away! Right?

There is also a lot to still learn about the impacts of oils and the like on your cycle. Most oils are plant-based, and some even contain phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens are plant-based substances that behave in a similar way to the hormone estrogen, which in adding to your routine, could either disrupt or balance your hormones, depending on your specific needs. Menstrual health is not a one size fits all approach!

Pro Tip: If you’ve never used oils before, remember to always dilute your 100% oil in a carrier oil first and patch test your skin before applying topically in any large or sensitive areas, and before you add it to your regular routine 🩸

In January of this year, France become one of the first countries to legally recognize endometriosis as a chronic illness, boosting services and treatment for millions of women living with this disease.

Canada has yet to follow. In response, “EndoAct Canada” has begun their campaign to raise awareness for the millions who suffer and the millions ($1.8 to be exact) we spend on inadequate healthcare to support them.

Yes, the federal government is not responsible for health care delivery, but it is responsible for addressing the substantial burden endometriosis has on its citizens and its services - and a responsibility to promote medical advancements through funding and educational support.

many of us know that endometriosis effects 1 in 10 uteruses - but to put that number differently, that is 395 million people struggling with chronic pain, medical trauma and preventable complications

this black history month, i both thank and commemorate Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner; an american inventor and revolutionary developer of the first adjustable sanitary pad — and the first of its kind to use an adhesive to keep the pad in place

while she invented the period product in the 1920s (long before pads were mainstream), she couldn’t afford the patent, being only a child at the time — she finally filed her patent in 1954, sitting on this idea for over 30 years

it was then, once her patent was approved, that Sonn-Nap-Pack company got word of her invention and expressed interest in helping her market it. it wasn’t until they arrived on her doorstep and saw that she was black, did they withdraw their interest and their offer.

her invention was never fully realized and Kenner never financially benefited from her work — as her patent expired and her idea became public domain.. another forgotten scientist, another stolen idea

for centuries, women were barred from the corridors of most scientific establishments and academic institutions, but like Kenner, they carried on regardless. they transformed their bedrooms into laboratories, turned coat hangers into scientific equipment, and saved and scrimped for their own patents.

“Every person is born with a creative mind,” Kenner famously said, “Everyone has that ability.”

may we remain creative and furiously relentless in our pursuit to improve the experience of the women who follow after us 🙏🏼

after 5 years on an IUD, i should have expected at least 5 months to recover, right? 🙃

the last five months have been a ride - menorrhagia, insomnia, migraines, body aches, fatigue, nausea and - the hardest hitter - depression. The funny thing about depression is that often times, you don’t really know you’re depressed until you come up from the low.

In recovery, I incorporated more whole foods (actually FED my body), seed cycled, stopped drinking, and focused solely on rest in all its forms. 🙏🏼

Healing is possible.
