A hardcover book titled "Mit Hitl3r im Westen" or "With Hitl3r in the West" with silver, embossed lettering that measures approximately 20cm x 27cm. 1916 GERMAN BOOK : BOELCKE – DEUTSCHLAND’S FLIEGERHELD

WW1 period book about Germany’s great early ace, Oswald Boelcke. He was the father of early WW1 German Aviation. He originated the concept of “hunting squadrons” (jastas) composed of single-seated fighter planes. He also recruited a number of promising pilots to whom he taught his way of fighting, which became known as the “Dicta Boelcke.” His most astute “cub” was a young Prussian cavalry officer named Manfred von Richthofen. After achieving forty confirmed victories, Boelcke was killed in a midair collision with another future PLM-winner, Erwin Boehme. Naturally, this book is in German. It was published during WW I after Boelcke’s death. Its title is Boelcke: Deutschlands Fliegerheld (Germany’s Flying Hero). It is a paperback that measures 7 1/2″ x 5″ x 1/2.” The book begins with quotes from many famous Germans about Boelcke’s loss, including Kaiser Wilhelm II, Kronprinz Wilhelm, and Generalfeldmarschall von Hindenburg. Many photographs of Boelcke and his boyhood home are in the book.
