THROWBACK: In a 2024 American Cinematographer feature, cinematographer Polly Morgan, ASC, BSC discusses the evolving look of Back to Black and how ENR processing was used to shape the film’s visual language.

“The color arc we did in the grade worked at the beginning of the film to show Amy’s joy and creativity, with color dominating the image, and as her story turns darker and more desperate, we desaturated the look and leaned heavily into the ENR.”

Picture Shop colorist Natasha Leonnet graded the film, with Picture Shop’s color science team, Joshua Pines and Chris Kutcka, crafting a LUT that characterized actual ENR processing.

For Every Year After, cinematographer Rob Marsh, NZCS () set out to create a cinematic visual identity that would elevate the series from the very first frame. He shared how his collaboration with Senior Colorist Claudio Sepulveda () at Picture Shop Vancouver helped shape the final look.

"The creative process for Every Year After began with taking the script and finding the visual identity for the show, making key creative decisions early with the intention of creating a cinematic and visually engaging series. After completing principal photography, a key part of the journey began with Claudio, whose expertise as a colorist helped shape and refine the final look. Claudio found the mood and tone we were looking for and was critical in ultimately delivering an amazing-looking show that stands tall in a highly competitive market."

Every Year After is now streaming on and has been renewed for a second season.
