π―π² HONORING A TRUE JAMAICAN HERO π―π²
Today we remember Samuel Sharpe, the brave Baptist deacon who stood up against slavery and led the historic Baptist War in 1831.
Sharpe believed that freedom was a right, not a privilege. His courage sparked one of the largest slave rebellions in the Caribbean β a movement that helped push Britain closer to ending slavery.
Though he was executed in 1832, his sacrifice was not in vain. His fight became part of the foundation of Jamaicaβs freedom.
β¨ βI would rather die upon yonder gallows than live in slavery.β β Samuel Sharpe
Because of heroes like him, Jamaica stands strong today.
Respect. Strength. Freedom.
