Happy belated Mother’s Day!

Though the day has passed, we still wanted to send lots of love to all the anaanas (mothers) out there.

Our book In My Anaana’s Amautik lovingly invites the reader into the amautik—the pouch in the back of a mother’s parka used to carry a child—to experience everything through the eyes of a baby nestled inside.

Sweet and soothing, this book is a perfect reminder of the adoration children have for their mothers.

Happy, sad, frustrated, angry, bored, excited . . . how are you feeling today?

It’s so important for little ones (and bigger ones) to be able to express and understand their emotions. In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re spotlighting books from our social emotional learning series! These titles teach us about feelings big and small, why we have them, and how to deal with them.

We love our feelings!

For World Art Day, we wanted to share different kinds of artwork you can find at our store.

On our walls hang prints from renowned artist Germaine Arnattaujuq. Her works have been featured in galleries and museums around the world, often with a focus on Inuit stories, women, birth, and motherhood. We are proud to host several of her prints.

We also have a collection of art books available, including biographies of artists like Germaine Arnattaujuq, Ningiukulu Teevee, Kenojuak Ashevak, and more!

It’s high time for a part two of fun facts about our store!

You may have noticed a few changes to our store in the last few months. Some new additions include . . .

1) We have prints on display from renowned artist Germaine Arnattaujuq! We are so happy to display prints by Germaine in our gallery and bookstore. All prints on display are available for purchase.

2) We’ve updated our reading nook! Is there anything better than flipping through a new book somewhere cozy? This new bench is one of our favourite spots to do just that.

3) We feature authors and their books on our spotlight wall! Have you noticed the photos we have hung on the wall and the books on display underneath?

4) If you swing by on Saturday afternoons, you’ll be lucky enough to see our extra cozy, extra soft storytime rug! Have a seat and listen to our weekly selection of stories.

Mia is always out on the land taking care of the plants and animals alongside her monster friends.

Our Mia and the Monsters books offer lessons on sharing, helping out your friends, and learning more about the sounds and colours around us.

We could all use a few monster friends like Mia’s!

Happy International Children’s Book Day!

Did you know that the majority of books in our store are children’s books? That’s because part of our mission to promote and preserve the stories, knowledge, and talent of the Arctic is for Nunavut kids to see their culture accurately represented in what they read in schools.

We have something for everyone—from board books for babies to chapter books for young adults. So come check out our children’s books! Your brain (and your heart) will thank you.

You may have heard of caribou, snowy owls, and butterflies . . . but what about Arctic cotton grass, staghorn sculpin, or ground squirrels?

There are so many incredible beings in the North! That’s why we want to share with you our Junior Field Guides. These books provide kids with the language and tools to learn about the Arctic landscape. Avid readers of our books might even spot a few familiar faces!
