Customer question: Ask Alex.

Thanks for the question and pics. From the looks of it you are in the harvest window but not fully ready to harvest.

This can be a confusing topic for beginners. This can sometimes come down to personal preference but harvesting cannabis at the right time is all about allowing the trichomes (tiny crystal looking structures) on the buds to reach maturity which will allow for peak cannabinoid potency.

It's not really about looking for the hairs to darken, bud hardness, or bud or leaf colour although they are good clues, but looking at the tiny trichomes to look at their ripeness.

The best way to tell is to use a magnifying glass to look at the trichomes and see if they have turned from clear to milky. This will ensure you have reached maturity. As the trichomes mature, they go from clear to milky, to amber colour. The amber colour is from the break down of cannabinoid and can indicate the bud is getting more sedative or what is called stony.

It can be hard to tell clear from milky, but with magnifying glass of 60x it gets very easy to see. We sell ones that attach to the phone for ready viewing and you can take pics to show your friends and husband as it changes.

With all that said, your buds look close. I can't tell from the pics but all the hairs have turned colour from their original white, they have started to curl which means you have entered the harvest window. This is a one to two week period that you would harvest. You can still get big changes in the bud during this time. Too early and you can loose potency and flavor, and make the bud stay a little green tasting. It can also be a bit racy, meaning it can be too stimulating for those senato sensitive to sativa type pot. Too late and the bud can start to brown, and be stony. These effects are subtle but do occur. I suggest taking a closer look at those trichs and deciding when the river is right. Are those auto flowers? It's quite early in the season for photo period plants.

Good luck! @ Homegrown Hydroponics Inc.
