📱🇨🇦 Are smartphones about to get 50% more expensive in Canada?
No — not for most phones.
Starting September 8, Canada is imposing a 50% counter-tariff on U.S.-origin smartphones. The key word is origin. The tariff does not automatically apply to every phone sold by an American brand or every smartphone sold in Canada.
What Canadians should watch for instead:
📈 Higher global supply-chain costs
💱 Changes in the Canadian dollar
🏷️ Fewer manufacturer/carrier promotions
📱 Potential adjustments to Canadian device pricing
So don't assume your next $1,500 smartphone suddenly becomes $2,250.
Can-Mobile will keep watching what Apple, Samsung, Google and Canada's carriers actually do with pricing.
