Strategies and methods of discipleship are introduced to Christian leaders before they know what a true God pleasing disciple should resemble.
However, as the "life influence life" effect happens, the disciples trained in the programs naturally duplicate the lives of their un-discipled masters.
If you examine the many programs and strategies proposed in the discipleship market, very few programs focus on God's requirements in the commandments and qualities of the disciples' relationship with God (though some do emphasize in prayers and Bible study - technically and as activities).
Religious Knowledge and religious activities are things on the surface. Daily lives that reflect obedience to the Lord's commandments and commission, devotion to worshipping God that flows out from the disciples' spirit, glad stewardship and warm fellowship, should be the Hallmark of a true disciple.
In engaging disciplers (trainers), we must first Cultivate these potential life transformers. Do not just pull in a program and give those who are not on a discipleship track themselves. Do not assume that the trainers have "arrived" but treat them as learners.
