We are delighted to welcome back papermaker Akari Osaki this fall, maker of the beautiful Seichosen Kozo and Seikosen Mitsumata papers.

In honour of Akari and her family’s visit, we are pleased to present Celebrating Osaki Washi, an exhibition of work made with Seichosen and Seikosen by a group of invited artists.

Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the papermaker, learn more about her papers, how artists use them, and much more!

Oguni Snowbleached Kozo 26g is a Heritage Washi made from 100% Japanese kozo fibre, grown locally by the Oguni papermakers.

The fibre is laid out on snowfields to be naturally whitened before being cooked with wood ash. This traditional process is called "yukisarashi", and the resulting paper has a distinctive white that is both bright and warm. It also becomes even brighter over time without yellowing.

Great for printmaking, including chine-collé, as well as drawing, shodo, dyeing, and conservation use.

Have you tried our latest colours and patterns? 🤎❤️ Lacquered Yuzen is a favourite of bookbinders and box makers, successfully simulating Japanese lacquerware with its elegant gloss. The heavy-wearing surface is silkscreen printed by hand, providing a luxurious look and feel you won’t want to let go of!

Looking for a washi with natural charm? Kawairi Chiri is a machine-made Japanese paper with added kozo bark flecks (chiri) for decorative appeal.

Despite these inclusions, it has a remarkably smooth surface, making it an excellent choice for printmaking and painting. It is also well suited for bookbinding, collage, gift wrapping, and more.

Do you like miniatures, books, and storytelling? Join artist/instructor Janine Malaca for this in-person workshop where you will create pieces that bring joy!

You will learn how to create stories in layers using elements cut from Chiyogami paper, and how to work within the limits of a 2 x 2.5” frame. The technical aspects of the construction have their nuances and require patience and attention to detail. While Janine guides you through each task, she shares the varied and numerous techniques, tips, and tricks she uses for cutting, gluing, and folding.
