Join us in-store on September 26th for a presentation and signing with author Andrew Furman!

Glideology, an invented word, is meant to evoke memories of gliding downhill on your bicycle as a child or sledding down a hill in the winter.

This book explores in a comic format the many shared experiences and feelings that go into commuting in urban areas and it looks to how the street can accommodate a multi-modal approach to sharing the laneways so that real options exist for the pedestrian.

Andrew Furman is a design professor at Toronto Metropolitan University. He is pursuing his PhD at TMU and York University. He lives in Toronto with his wife and three children. He enjoys riding his bike and walking through the ravines. Other contributors include: Peter Birkemoe, Andrew O’ Malloy, and Orion Ussner Kidder.

Our Library Services team is expanding! We are currently hiring for two full-time positions.

In addition to the retail store (est 1987), The Beguiling has had a Library Services business for over 20 years that works to build collections for a variety of customers from schools and public libraries to universities, colleges and special collections Canada-wide and beyond!

Applicants should have at least a general knowledge of the comics landscape, and be able to talk about what kinds of comics they’ve read and enjoyed. Weekend availability is required. These are flexible roles in a busy, collaborative environment.

• We are a Queer-friendly workplace and have many staff who call the LGBTQ+ umbrella home! We welcome everyone who can respect a Queer-positive environment.
• As a business, we do not use nor do we condone the use of Generative AI in our work and are looking for candidates who will not use Generative AI in their work.
• We are a COVID-conscious workplace where all staff and customers are required to wear a surgical/respirator face-mask at all times.
