Introducing our The Flyght Club, a recurring social fly tying gathering for tyers at Drift Outfitters!

Why FLYght Club? Our fly tying space was once a boxing gym, so we couldn't resist the play on words. The gloves may be gone, but the tying benches are in, and the only hooks you'll be throwing are the ones in your vise.

Bring your own vise, tools, materials, and whatever project you're working on. Whether you're filling your fly box with Woolly Buggers, tying classic salmon flies, or experimenting with something new, everyone is welcome.

This isn't a class, it's a place to tie, socialize, swap ideas, and share tips with fellow tyers. No formal lessons, just a friendly community that enjoys the craft. Learn more at the link in the post!

Big news in the Southern Ontario fishing scene this week! With increasingly longer and colder nights we saw a massive drop in river temperatures this week which is going to bring a lot more fish into our rivers! Some of our Lake Ontario rivers dropped by over 5 degrees Celsius, for cold water fish like steelhead and salmon, that's the kind of change that will trigger them to push into rivers.

To this point in the season we've had some great fishing opportunity, however it's mostly been on a few specific rivers, that all changes now. With the colder weather we've gotten this will get fish rolling into more and more rivers now. While there have been some steelhead in our rivers as well, this will also really start to kick off our steelhead run!

If you're an angler who enjoys targetting the most energetic, freshest, hardest fighting steelhead of the season, especially by swinging flies, this is a great time of year to do it!

While we do have much more fishing to look forward to this season, remember that fall is an unpredictable time, even just last year many of our rivers froze solid by late fall. Waiting for tomorrow's fish is rarely a good strategy for success, get out there and enjoy it while conditions are good!

We can’t wait to get our hands on the brand new Loop Classic X multiplier reels! These reels retrieve at a 2:1 speed, allowing you to zip line in, keep tight to fish, and save you from tiring your cranking arm out. We have a bunch of these reels coming in soon with a second order arriving shortly after. The demand for these reels has been off the charts and we’re taking reservations for those who want one, many have been spoken for already, so let us know if you’d like one soon!

Hello everyone, Rob here, Owner and operator of Drift Outfitters! We have some huge news to share about a big new brand we’ve brought into our shop.

Sitka is now available at Drift Outfitters! We are thrilled to announce this new addition to our wader, wading boot, outerwear, and apparel line-up!  I’ve been using Sitka coming up on a decade now while out in the duck blind, relying on their tough high-performance gear to keep dry while slugging it out in mashes, fields, shorelines, rivers, and everywhere else you can find a duck.  When Sitka entered the fly fishing space, I knew we had to make a home for it at Drift.

Sitka adds another great option to our wader and gear collections, featuring Gore-Tex waders, layering solutions, outwear, and other high performance gear & lifestyle items that won’t let you down. 

A quick note on sizing: sizing does differ from brand to brand, keep this in mind when you're looking at gearing up especially when trying a different brand of waders, boots or clothing. While I typically wear a large in Simms, I need to size up for Sitka, and size down for Patagonia. Give us a call when you're looking to get geared up, or even better, come to the shop, and we can help make sure you step into the perfect set!

We're bringing the Drift Centerpin School back, co-hosted by Chris Krysciak from Drift and Matt Martin of Smooth River Guiding! In this class you'll learn how to properly use a centerpin (float fishing) setup on our local rivers. We'll be covering rigging, bait selection, casting, adjusting for changing conditions, and more!

If you haven't tried centerpin fishing before, it's an incredibly effective way to target fish in rivers and really shines for steelhead and salmon. The technique has unique roots in Ontario waters and has proven itself to be arguably the most effective technique ever to catch these incredible fish.

Whether you're a first timer or someone who has been fishing with a centerpin setup for a few seasons and wants to improve your success, make sure to check this event out! Space is extremely limited and this has sold out quickly in the past, so don't wait!
