Bass season is opening this coming Saturday in Zones 17 and 18, with additional zones set to follow in the coming weeks. For many anglers, bass opener marks one of the most anticipated weekends of the year, and for good reason!

Early season bass fishing often provides some of the best opportunities of the entire season to catch both numbers and trophy-sized fish. After months without angling pressure and fresh off the spawn, bass are hungry, aggressive, and actively feeding.

If you're planning to hit the water this opener or in the weeks ahead, these early season bass fishing tips will help you find more fish and maximize your success.

This weekend marks one of the biggest fishing weekends of the year in Southern Ontario, bass season officially opens in FMZ 17! This is your chance to get out for fish that haven't seen a lure or fly for many months, and they're hungry!! Some of the biggest fish of the year are at their most aggressive on opener, make sure you don't miss it! Opportunities for pike, musky, and carp remain excellent as well, with the cooler weather this week helping get pike fired up again!

Trout fishing conditions have also improved dramatically thanks to cooler weather and fresh rain. Temperatures on most of our rivers have fallen into the mid-teens range, the absolute perfect range for peak trout feeding! This spring has been incredible for trout, make sure to get out and enjoy it!

Big news! We’ll be opening our new dedicated fly tying retail space (The Tying Bench) very soon in the lower floor of the shop, fly tying will now have it’s own dedicated space, allowing us to carry even more of your favourite materials! While we move our fly tying inventory to the new space we’ll be closing our in-store fly tying retail space for a short time. Online orders for materials will continue to ship but will take longer than usual to go out. We remain open for all of your other fly fishing needs with regular hours.

June is here, and with it comes the unofficial kickoff to summer fishing in Ontario!
