What are PANS and PANDAS?

PANS and PANDAS are medical conditions that can cause sudden changes in a child’s behaviour and mental health. Symptoms can include OCD, tics, food restrictions, anxiety, mood changes, trouble sleeping, and changes in school performance or sensory sensitivities.

PANDAS is linked to strep infections, while PANS can be triggered by different infections or other factors. Symptoms can come and go, or sometimes last a long time.

These conditions are often overlooked or misunderstood, and it can take years for some families to get answers. If your child suddenly develops OCD, tics, or severe food restrictions, it may be worth talking to a doctor about PANS or PANDAS.

Getting the right diagnosis can help families understand what is happening and explore treatment options.

Everyday Play Becomes Insight.

Stacking blocks, pointing to pictures, clapping hands; these simple moments reveal so much about development. Pointing is an early sign of communication; stacking blocks shows problem-solving and motor skills; clapping demonstrates coordination and social engagement. The ASQ helps you see the meaning inside the play!
