A huge congratulations to all of the authors on the Giller Prize shortlist!

What are you adding to your TBR? Who do you think will take home the prize???

Happy release week to DODGE CITY by Patrick DeWitt!

Patrick DeWitt is the bestselling author of THE LIBRARIANIST, THE SISTERS BROTHERS, and FRENCH EXIT (the former two, both Giller prize finalists!).

He continues this trend with DODGE CITY, which is long listed for the Giller prize and, if you ask us, is primed to be a modern classic. It's a rollicking novel about a young man in the 1960s on an amphetamine-fueled cross-country road trip, fleeing the draft for the safe haven of Canada.

"Funny, warm-hearted and beautifully written; we can imagine the Coen brothers immediately turning it into a movie."
-The Times

You can catch Patrick DeWitt at The Book Drunkard Festival on October 26th, where he'll discuss this newest novel with Terry Fallis!

Head to our website today to find out more and grab your tickets 🎟️🎟️🎟️

Last night's Celebration of the Arts Books and Authors Night!

The three interviews were all so unique and yet somehow connected by a thread of humanity vs. nature.

Ted did a lovely job interviewing and, at the end, asked each author what book they were reading or would recommend.

Kelly Anderson chose Under Story, by Chloe Benjamin

Anita Rau Badami chose My Garden (Book) by Jamaica Kincaid

Wayne Johnston chose Shakespeare: The Invention of the Human, by Harold Bloom

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our fantastic group of authors!

Every Child Matters 🧡

September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day.

Established to honour Residential School Survivors, their families, and those who never returned home, it serves as a powerful reminder of the lasting impacts of the Residential School system.

Canadians wear orange today, inspired by the story of Phillis Webstad who had her orange shirt taken away on her first day at Indian residential school. The orange shirt has become a symbol of hope, reconciliation, and commitment to a better future.

One of the recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was education. There are so many fantastic books on reconciliation and the history of the residential school system, including a few by Phyllis herself!

Take some time today to reflect, and if you want to learn more about the residential school system and it's impacts, we have many books on the subject.

A fantastic day launching FAMILY ROOMS by Dr Jennifer Wilson and Dr Carlye Jensen this past Sunday 🥰

The community came out in full support!
From local politicians to the medical community, even the brother of one of the patients mentioned in the book, we were so happy to be part of this day celebrating the work of two wonderful people!

FAMILY ROOMS recounts the dramatic, comic, and quietly devastating moments from decades of practice in their community and beyond, inviting readers into the spaces where care happens.

A portion of the authors’ proceeds will be donated to the Uxbridge Hospital Foundation in support of the new Uxbridge Hospital.

Signed copies of FAMILY ROOMS are available at Blue Heron Books ✨📚
