A piano drifts out of tune gradually, so our ears adjust with it.

The “before” sounds fine—until you hear the “after.” When you go back and listen again, the difference seems huge.

Tuning is more than fixing individual notes: the entire piano was brought back up to standard pitch, the strings within each note were tuned in unison, and the intervals were balanced across the keyboard. The result is a clearer sound and chords that settle instead of wavering.

🎹 HOW CAN YOU TELL IF PIANO STRINGS NEED REPLACING?

With copper-wound bass strings, one clue is how quickly the sound fades. Healthy bass strings should sound rich and resonant, while tired or damaged strings may decay quickly and lack warmth or clarity.

Short sustain can have other causes, so it isn’t a diagnosis by itself. Listen closely—can you hear how quickly these notes fade?

🎹 ARE THESE PIANO KEYS MISSING?

Not exactly! Each key is actually a long wooden lever—the missing white pieces are simply the keytops your fingers touch.

As adhesive ages and the piano experiences changes in temperature and humidity, keytops can loosen or fall off. Replacements must be carefully fitted and aligned to create a smooth playing surface without interfering with the keys’ movement.

So, this piano hasn’t lost its keys—it’s suffering from a bad case of keytop pattern baldness. And it's completely repairable - no tiny piano toupees will be required! 😄

What happens inside your piano as it ages?

Over time, regular playing and natural aging can cause a piano’s hammers to drift farther from the strings. During regulation, they’re carefully reset to the proper position, restoring a more even, responsive touch across the keyboard.

Dust, pet hair, and debris can accumulate inside your piano’s action cavity—the space surrounding the delicate moving parts beneath the keys. Over time, this buildup can affect the piano’s touch and performance.

Adam recently travelled to Italy for factory training at Fazioli, one of the world's most respected piano manufacturers.

Spending time in the factory gave him the opportunity to learn from experienced technicians and gain a deeper understanding of how these remarkable instruments are built, regulated, and prepared.

Whether we're servicing a family upright that's been in the home for decades or a concert grand, that commitment to learning continues to shape the care we bring to every piano.

We're grateful for opportunities like this—and even more grateful for the clients who trust us with their instruments.

You'd be surprised what we find inside some pianos.

Not every buzz, rattle, or strange noise means your piano is out of tune. Sometimes it's a pencil. Sometimes it's a piece of paper between the keys.

And sometimes it's a toy car 😄👍🚗

If your piano has developed a mysterious buzz or rattle, we'd be happy to find the cause.

Can you spot the problem?

The blue-green discoloration visible on these strings is corrosion, which can develop over many years due to humidity, moisture, or environmental conditions.

In some cases, corrosion is only cosmetic. In others, it can affect tone quality, tuning stability, and even increase the risk of string breakage.

When corrosion becomes severe, replacing the affected strings may be the best long-term solution.

This particular piano required new strings to restore both its appearance and performance.
