We are thrilled to announce our new exhibit for September 2026, A Colour Is Never Still, by Kate Metten!

Kate Metten is a Vancouver-born interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of painting and ceramics. Her practice explores material hierarchies, optical colour relationships, abstraction, and the mechanics of perception. Moving between the histories of modernist painting, functional pottery, and sculptural form, Metten uses intuitive construction and material response to create works that are at once recognizable and unfamiliar.

She holds a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design and has undertaken residencies in Berlin, Denmark, and Vancouver. In 2023, she received the Judson Beaumont BC Achievement Award of Applied Art & Design. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Canada and internationally. Metten lives and works in Vancouver, where she operates Kate Metten Ceramics in Mount Pleasant and develops projects across painting, ceramics, design, and exhibition-making.

We are now seeking submissions for 2027!

Submission deadline: end of day September 30, 2026

Portal Pop-Up is a small window display space in Gastown showcasing Vancouver artists in a highly visible location on pedestrian-friendly W. Cordova St.

We are seeking eye-catching artwork that can be effectively presented within the Portal window space. Lens-based work may also be considered for an exhibition during the Capture Photography Festival in April.

We are considering solo, duo and/or group projects. If you have a preference, please let us know.

Window dimensions: The upright, window-facing wall is 10’ W × 8’ H, with a 48” × 20” shelf for small objects. Both the right and left sides of the window display can accommodate work approximately 40” W × 50” H max.

Artists are encouraged to come take a look at the window at 407 W. Cordova St. and consider how their work could inhabit the space.

To submit: Please send 50–100 words about your work or proposed exhibition, your contact information, and up to 5 images. Please include dimensions and medium for each work.
