The Padrona Lounger is finally finished...

And so is my time at the Camosun Fine Furniture Program 🫨

Wow, what a journey! The last 10 months have had such incredible highs and lows, but I've learned so much and am a better person and maker for it.

This chair means a lot to me. I was asked how much I would sell it for. My retort was what's a fraction of a soul going for these days?

I am not sure what's in store for me, but I know that creating is my dream. As long as I'm doing that, I'll be where I need to be.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey. I seriously couldn't have done it without you.

And to all the friends I made this year, I miss you already. I spent more time with you than my wife, and I've come to appreciate all of your art so deeply. If you ever need anything, reach out anytime.

First attempt at upholstery! There is a lot to learn and so much to improve upon, but I think it's going to be a continued part of my practice. This stool was a wonderful project to do with a team of 4, and we all gained so much from one another 🔥❤️

Also, who doesn't like a cheeky pop of colour ~

Anyone else like the sound of the router? Maybe with some earplugs 😅 something about the dull whine during a slow carve-out like this is satisfying. Just need to chisel the joints flush and we've successfully created a double dado of different widths! I can't say enough praise for trim routers 🙌

Those Shakers were onto something!

This project had intense highs and lows, but I learned so much. Learning how to hand cut dovetails is not for the impatient! I can't wait to try another piece of Shaker furniture. I can't believe there are only 4 weeks left of my program! I still haven't processed everything we've learned over the past 10 months. Hopefully I process it soon because time is ticking to ask questions 😅

Playing with shadow and shape with this lid pull!
I wasn't sure what shape would come from the lamination pattern, but every angle is different. It's not shown, but the back is the negative of what is seen (maple instead of black walnut). I made the bottom a little tapered to lift the pull above the lid just a touch, creating an interesting shadow effect.

The front looks like a symbol I've seen somewhere in Europe...can anyone identify?? What do you think of the pattern? 👀

First shot at veneering!

I'm going to try to post some of the cool things we are learning...really, that means I could post multiple times a day, but I'll aim for 1-2 times a week 😅

Our instructor said the secret to tight mitre joints on boxes is electrical tape! Masking tape works, but the electrical tape gets a strethy-snug fit.

Looking forward to posting the final look 👀
