The Boreal Forest in Canada holds an astonishing 25% of the world's wetlands. Filtering the forest’s vast freshwater reserves, these wetlands supply clean water and serve as a buffer against floods and drought— all the while providing nesting grounds for billions of birds and vital habitat for wildlife.

The boreal forest is home to 70% of Indigenous communities and provides habitat to the iconic boreal caribou and many other species.

Sadly, the boreal forest is being destroyed by logging and other industrial activity. Some action needs to be taken to protect it.

It is important not just for Canada but for the entire world because it is one of the world’s most important climate regulators and carbon storehouses.

We have to protect the boreal forest for many important reasons.

28% of the world's boreal zone lies in Canada and affects the health of the environment worldwide! It is home to an extensive range of mammals including Woodland caribou.

The boreal forest is culturally and economically significant to Canada's Aboriginal people. 70% of Aboriginal communities in Canada are located in forested regions.
