Fifa is coming to Vancouver, let’s make a soccer ball ⚽️
This weekend is the first kickoff of FIFA in Vancouver, and we’re finally ready! Making a leather soccer ball with 3/4oz natural veg tan leather came with some difficulties, most of which are user error, since this is the first ball I’ve ever made. Thankfully, we have a WeCreat Vision Pro laser to help cut the pieces that would’ve taken way too long to do by hand. The laser also engraved the Lonsdale Leather logo and the logo for the “big game” with ease ✨
Then comes the stitching...any tips for making this part easier? We’re open to suggestions! If this were done by hand, it would’ve looked so much better, but hand-stitching 32 leather panels together can be a little tedious and time-consuming 😵💫
Now that we have finished this ball, here are some learning points:
✅ Don’t use 3/4 oz natural veg tan leather. Could get away with a 2/3 or even use a softer tempered leather
✅ Make more time and hand stitch for optimal visual awesomeness and uniformity. We have a laser to accurately cut all the stitch holes, so it won’t be too hard
✅ Possibly skiving the edges of each panel could help with bulk
✅ Drink more water
