Today, we join communities across Canada and the US, to honour Indigenous Women and Girls on the occasion ofRed Dress Day.

May 5th is weighted with the lives of Indigenous women and girls who have been taken or left unaccounted for. The REDress Project, created by Métis artist Jaime Black, made visible what Indigenous families, communities, and advocates have long been forced to carry: the ongoing violence against Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people, the loss endured, and absence that follows.

For more information, check out a beautiful frontline statement by our Mothership along with the Centre for Family Equity, Erin Arnold, Surrey Women’s Centre, Victoria Women’s Transition House Society, Prince George Sexual Assault Centre, and Pacific Post Partum Support Society.

We are so grateful to be part of such an engaged community.

Clothing ends up in piles like this.
Still wearable, still in good condition.
Production hasn’t slowed down.
Clothing moves faster than people can use it.
Low prices, constant turnover, new drops every week.
Fabric, labour, shipping, then discard
That flow leads somewhere as landfills keep growing.

Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the beginning of the modern environmental movement in 1970.

More than a billion people take part.
The focus stays on changing how we live and what we accept.

Energy, food, and water get most of the attention.

Clothing often gets missed.

The impact shows up in real ways.
Water use.
Chemicals.
Textile waste.
Microplastics in the ocean.
Flooding, heat, health and changing ecosystems.

At My Sister’s Closet, we slow that down.

Nothing gets thrown away - repurpose by design

Clothing comes in, gets sorted, goes back on the rack.

It moves through the community instead of out of it.

People come in looking for what they need right now.

Something for work. Something for an interview. Something that fits.

Donations, volunteers, supporters, and shoppers keep it moving.
Less waste, more use.

It’s been quiet here for a while on social media
We’re finding our way back into this space.
Clothing keeps moving, not into a pile, but through people.

Community changes where it ends up.

We’re hiring: Manager, Retail Services & Programs (My Sister’s Closet)

Do you believe fashion can fuel change? That thrift can transform lives? That a store can be more than a store—an engine for fashion, thrifting, justice, sustainability, community, and ending gender-based violence?

At My Sister’s Closet (a social enterprise of BWSS ), every donated garment and every purchase powers frontline services to end GBV, advances a circular economy, and provides tangible support to survivors. Our boutiques and online shop are movement spaces where volunteers build skills, artisans showcase their work, and community gathers with purpose.

We’re looking for a leader with vision, creativity, and hustle to take this work to the next level. As Manager, Retail Services & Programs you will:
• Oversee multi-site retail operations and our online shop, growing revenue ethically and sustainably.
• Lead the Women’s Artisan Program, spotlighting local women and gender-diverse makers.
• Mentor and mobilize a vibrant team of staff and volunteers.
• Shape merchandising, campaigns, collaborations, communications, and social media.
• Partner with donors, artisans, and community leaders to expand our reach and impact.
• Ensure My Sister’s Closet thrives as both a business success and a movement hub for intersectional feminist advocacy.

You bring: 3–5 years in retail/social enterprise/eco-fashion leadership; a track record in sales growth and partnerships; strong staff/volunteer supervision; flair for merchandising, branding, and program design; skills in communications, marketing, and e-commerce; and a deep commitment to intersectional feminist, anti-oppression, and decolonial practice.

You won’t just be managing a store—you’ll be fueling a movement. If you’re ready to lead with hustle, purpose, creativity, and heart please apply via the link in bio or visit bwss.org. Rolling review; early applications encouraged. Tag someone who should see this.
