There’s something special happening on Main Street this Sunday…

Imagine spending the day wandering through beautiful Vankleek Hill, with Main Street filled with the aromas of incredible food, local producers sharing what they grow and create, little discoveries around every corner, and a community coming together around one of life’s greatest pleasures…

FOOD.

That’s the Festival of Flavours.

Come hungry, because Main Street will be filled with wonderful food vendors and local favourites, including Rustic Pantry, Parachute Farms, La Plantation, One Eleven Café and so many more, each bringing a taste of what they do best.

And of course, The Chocolate Lab QC will be there too.

We’re bringing so many handcrafted chocolate creations, made in small batches with beautiful organic and locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. Expect chocolate, roasted nuts, gorgeous flavours and a few things you may find very difficult to walk past.

But don’t just come for the food.

Wander. Explore. Stay awhile.

Pop into the charming little shops along Main Street, the kind that genuinely look as though they belong in a Hallmark movie. One of my absolute favourites is The Magical Dwarf Shoppe. Trust me, you’ll want to go inside.

Meet the growers. Talk to the makers. Taste something new. Discover a shop you didn’t know existed. And experience the beautiful community of Vankleek Hill at its very best.

There are some recipes that begin long before we ever step into a kitchen.

My Nanna had a farm in Amato, Calabria, where fig trees grew under the southern Italian sun, and my mother would often tell me stories of the war years, when food was simple and nothing was wasted.

She remembered eating figs, bread and sardines.

Not because they were fashionable or special, but because they were what the land provided. Fig trees bent with fruit in the heat of summer, bread was made to nourish a family, and even the simplest meal carried them through difficult days.

Those stories have stayed with me.

Today, I make my chocolate figs a little differently.

I slowly rehydrate the figs with Caña rum, fill them with a dark chocolate Caña rum ganache, and finally dip each one in dark chocolate.

The technique may be mine, but the beginning of the story isn’t.

It began on a little farm in Amato, beneath the fig trees, with my Nanna, my mother, and branches heavy with fruit under the Italian sun.

Perhaps that is what I love most about food.

We don’t always recreate the recipes our families left us.

Sometimes we take the memory, carry it forward, and make something new from it.

Old world. New hands. Same story.

And I often wonder… how many of our sweetest recipes begin under a fig tree?

Some celebrations stay with us forever.

There is something beautiful about creating chocolate for a wedding. Knowing that something made by hand will find its place among the flowers, the laughter, the clinking glasses and the people gathered around you on your special day.

Over the years, The Chocolate Lab has had the honor of creating pieces for so many special days, each one a little different, because every love story is different.

Perhaps that is what I love most about weddings.

It isn’t simply about chocolate.

It’s about creating something especially for your day, something beautiful enough to become part of the memory.

Because some moments deserve something unforgettable.

For the love of chocolate, and all the beautiful stories it becomes part of.

The Chocolate Muse

She arrives every autumn in whispers, not fanfare.

This year’s Chocolate Muse is one of the newest members of our Fall Collection.

She was inspired by quiet moments, old family recipes, and the belief that the best chocolate is never rushed.

Over the past few months, I’ve been returning to traditions that have lived in my family for generations, while allowing new ideas to find their place beside them.

Each piece in this collection has its own story. Some are rooted in memory. Others were born in the chocolate lab, one recipe at a time.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing those stories with you.

Because every piece of chocolate deserves more than a name.

It deserves a story.

Chief Inspector Cacao’s Case File #001

Good afternoon.

Allow me to introduce myself.

I am Chief Inspector Cacao, duly appointed by The Chocolate Lab QC Society to investigate all matters involving chocolate, curious rumours, missing confections, and other suspicious happenings.

It has recently come to my attention that a rumour is circulating claiming The Chocolate Lab QC has permanently closed.

As Chief Inspector, I had no choice but to investigate.

After carefully examining the evidence, interviewing reliable witnesses, reviewing the facts, and accepting several pieces of chocolate as… evidence…

I am pleased to report that the rumour is entirely unfounded.

Should you require further confirmation, I recommend questioning the Chocolatier herself.

However, I must advise you that the Chocolatier has been known to encourage witnesses to sample the evidence.

She may be contacted by sending a message on Facebook or Instagram, or by email at [email protected].

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have another mystery to solve.

Someone keeps making the chocolate disappear…

Three beautiful ladies with so much soul stopped by today. 💙

They enjoyed their chocolates… and then completely made my day by wearing the little blue ribbons from their treats in their hair.

Moments like these remind me that chocolate is about so much more than what’s inside the wrapper. It’s about laughter, kindness, connection, and the little memories we create together.

CSI: THE CHOCOLATE LAB QC

Today’s Case: Murder by Chocolate.

The evidence is everywhere… splatters on the counter, suspicious molds, and one chocolatier claiming,

“I have no idea how this happened.”

Verdict: Case closed.

The evidence has been transformed into another batch of handcrafted chocolate.

No chocolate was harmed… only my clean countertops.

Happy World Chocolate Day.

Today I celebrate every chocolatier, cocoa farmer, artisan, pastry chef, chocolatier-in-training, and every person who has ever shared a piece of chocolate with someone they love.

Chocolate has never been just an ingredient to me.

It has introduced me to incredible people, carried me through difficult seasons, and reminded me that the smallest handmade things can leave the deepest memories.

Here’s to tradition, craftsmanship, and a life shaped in chocolate.

For us, that place is Canada. 🇨🇦

A country where neighbours still wave, where strangers hold the door, where “eh” somehow makes everyone smile, and where a bottle of maple syrup can spark a conversation that lasts an afternoon.

We are proud to call this beautiful country home.

Today, we celebrate more than a flag. We celebrate the people who fill this land with kindness, humility, resilience, laughter, and hope. From the Atlantic to the Pacific, through our forests, mountains, prairies, lakes, and the streets of every small town and big city, Canada reminds us that our greatest strength has always been each other.
