I regret to inform you that as of today I will no longer be able to mail donated items to U.S. rescues.
As the duty free threshold has been lifted by the U.S., on all items including small packages and gifts, I was forced to pay 32% duty on the declared value of the aprons I mailed yesterday.
I'm heartbroken. I've worked with some of these groups for a very long time and contributing to help deserving dogs find their forever homes brings me great joy.
I hope things change....but for now I cannot afford to donate my time, materials and then pay for the priviledge of donating while worrying the rescues on the receiving end will have to pay a t*riff.

Feel good Friday is brought to you this week by the letter 'F' ... as in FINISHED'!
This frosty-faced boxer apron will be sent along with the sugar skull to 5149 & 1/2 Art for their annual Buckner's Extravaganza Auction in support of R&R Boxer Rescue beginning September 21st.
While I was at it I finished a Scotty dog for a friend.
This ends my sewing donation commitments for the fall.
It's time to pay some much needed attention to my house, gardens and the 4 legged freeloaders....once things get cleaned up around here I'll reward myself by starting another quilt. Happy (long) weekend everyone.

Hi everyone. We're back from our summer vacation and I'm hard at work finishing some projects to get into the mail for 5149 & 1/2 Art 's upcoming auction in support of R&R Boxer Rescue .
Remember this sugar skull? It's now an apron. I'm pleased with how it turned out. The Boston sugar skull raised some respectable funds for BTRC. Hopefully this one will do the same. They're very labour intense and I may have to utilize technology to streamline the process going forward. Meanwhile, I'll try to get a frosty faced boxer apron complete and run them to the post office.

Feel good Friday part two is a shout out to our community of Desert Cove who stepped up with canned goods, produce, clothes, shoes and money for the All Are Family Outreach Society . They're struggling with donations and our fall food drive is more than a month away.
In addition, a big shout out to Animal Auxiliary Thrift Store who donated produce, diapers, toiletries, dry goods, cat litter, dog food and some gift cards to the outreach.

Thank you all so much for helping those struggling in our community. ❤️

This week's feel good Friday is a two part deal. First, congratulations to Gena, Dale and the team at the Animal Auxiliary Thrift Store on the opening of the Pet Safe House. It will be maintained on an ongoing basis to support the pets of evacuated families.
I had the pleasure of viewing the new facility this week while dropping off some crate quilts and taking measurements for some curtains for the kitty crates.
This is such an inspired idea and much needed service. Kudos to them and thanks for everything they've done to support evacuees... they rock!

You showed up for the Boston 26 in an incredible way! But they’re only part of the story.

Right now, there are 51 dogs in BTRC’s care. To put that number in perspective, there have been entire years when BTRC hasn’t rescued 51 dogs. And it’s only August.

Some are waiting for scheduled veterinary care. Some are recovering. Others are learning and getting ready for adoption. And 8 are Set for Life dogs, who will remain in BTRC’s care for the rest of their lives.
