The lives of the bears are written into the trees.

When the salmon return in abundance, here on Vancouver Island, the bears carry their catch from the river into forest.
This gives nourishment to the soil. The trees then grow stronger, their rings recording the years when the rivers were generous.
Fish, bear, river, and tree—each giving life to the next.
This sculpture is a story of the forest’s great circle of life, where nothing is truly separate.

There's an old childhood belief that if you hold a seashell to your ear, you can hear the ocean inside it.
Of course, the ocean isn't actually trapped within the shell, yet somehow, the story feels true.

That's what memory does.
A shell doesn't need to contain the ocean to bring the ocean back to us.
And a voice doesn't need to exist in the room for us to hear it again in our minds.
A familiar sound, a scent, a photograph, or artwork can suddenly open a doorway to someone we remember.

This moon snail sculpture was created as meditation on memory — on the people, places and moments we carry within us.

This is a sculpture about remembering.
Maybe it'll remind you of someone you miss.
Or perhaps it's simply a reminder that nothing we truly love is ever completely gone.

As a child I saw faces in many things in nature, like tree bark or clouds. Years later, I learned this was called 'pareidolia.' I no longer try to stifle this strange vision but rather enhance it through my art!

This incredible double mushroom grew together. It seemed to hold the story of an old couple. The handle is strong, thick driftwood, which grew like a stange vine. It ends in a beautiful shell.

15 years ago I set up a blanket on the beach to sell my driftwood sculptures.
Today, I've created over 3000 original works!

"Sadness is but a wall between two gardens."

When I'm sad, I give shape to the feelings. With colors and form, I express it in art.

This helps me see that sadness is a part of all that I am. Not something to ignore or push away.
Its something to acknowledge and explore creativity.

This artwork was made with yellow cedar wood. The bowl shape has a natural crack, which I liked, and worked into the sculpture.

It hangs on the wall. Real turquoise stones are affixed in the bowl and as her tears.

On the days that I allow myself to slow down, I begin to see beauty in the smallest of things.

Everyday things like how ants communicate in a secret language of touch and smell. How birds fly with speed and precision yet never crash. How mushrooms grow slowly and bloom like strange flowers.

I begin to realize I'm not just an observer, but a part of this strange, magical world.

Guided by a hand that's not entirely my own, I put these feelings into art. To give fleeting moments of awareness some permanence in sculptural form.

Born from this is 'Mushroom Woman'. Created with real tree conk/ polypore/ fungi. It was dried hard as wood and preserved to endure handling as a talking stick, if desired.

Driftwood makes up the handle. A snail shell, adorns the bottom.
