Esther Drone Pottery

Esther Drone Pottery Esther Drone Pottery produces functional pottery, ornamental clay animals & carved porcelain pieces. The display room is open by appointment. What a busy place!

Esther's pottery can also be found at the Sugar Shack at the My Chosen Café in Metchosin. Esther Drone first studied pottery at free, summer school courses that were offered at the Willistead Park Coach House in Windsor. She then decided to pursue her studies at Sheridan College. The Ceramics Department was located at the Lorne Park Campus in Mississauga Ontario (Canada) at that time. After completing her diploma in Crafts and Design with a Ceramics Major (1980) she taught night school at the college and was the studio pottery technician for a few years (1981-84). After marrying and having her first son the new family moved to Detroit. Esther worked mostly on perfecting her porcelain carving techniques while there. She had her second son. The family then moved to Victoria, British Columbia (1988), eventually buying a home in Langford where Esther's studio is currently located. Her husband Ray, built a 2nd floor addition above her studio where he used to bake artisan breads in the commercial kitchen. Since he has retired, their son Louis Drone has taken over the kitchen to produce delicious charcuterie items. Food and pottery pair well together.

Coning & centering 18 lbs of clay.

It's always weird that when you're throwing something big (13" tall) it never looks big in photos! Keep up your muscle mass as you age - throw big pots!

Was lucky enough to be invited on The Potters Cast with Paul Blais (episode 1247) this week! I'll admit it was very stressful talking about myself. Paul was very nice and I appreciate listening to his podcasts while I'm working away in my studio. Thank you Paul!
