More than a garden tool, this is a piece of modern garden history. 🌿
Dutch plantsman and designer Piet Oudolf transformed the way we think about gardens. As a leading figure behind the New Perennial Movement, he shifted the focus from formal bedding displays to naturalistic plant communities that celebrate texture, structure, movement, and seasonality.
Rather than designing for a single moment of peak bloom, Oudolf creates landscapes that evolve through every season — finding beauty in fresh spring growth, summer flowers, autumn seed heads, and even the quiet silhouettes of winter. His work has inspired some of the world’s most celebrated gardens, including New York’s High Line and Chicago’s Lurie Garden.
To complement this approach to gardening, Piet partnered with Sneeboer Tools to create a collection of heirloom-quality hand tools designed specifically for planting and tending richly layered perennial gardens.
Hand-forged in the Netherlands using Sneeboer’s century-old techniques and premium stainless steel, the collection includes:
🌱 Piet Oudolf Hand Spade
A long, slender blade designed to slip effortlessly between established plants. Similar in size to our beloved Great Dixter short planting spade, the Oudolf spade features a larger, traditional spade-shaped head — perfect for digging, planting, transplanting, and dividing smaller clumps in situ. The larger head also holds more soil, making it ideal for creating planting holes.
🌱 Piet Oudolf Seed Box
A beautifully crafted wooden seed box housing two essential planting tools: a stainless steel transplanting trowel and a precision right-handed hand hoe with a 10 cm blade. Both feature smooth ash handles engraved with “Piet Oudolf Collection” and are designed for years of thoughtful gardening.
More than a collection of tools, this collaboration reflects Piet Oudolf’s philosophy of gardening with intention, patience, and an appreciation for plants through every stage of their life cycle.
A true heirloom collection for gardeners who believe gardening is both an art and a lifelong practice. 🌱
