Adulting is finally getting a dumpster and being ridiculously excited about it 😂
But honestly… this dumpster is a huge milestone for me and for The Thrift Barn.
For the past couple years, I’ve been slowly working through years of accumulated clutter, old inventory, broken items, and things the store simply no longer needs. It has cost me a lot of time, energy, dump runs, truck loads, and money trying to clear this building out while still keeping the doors open.
This dumpster is going to save me countless trips to the dump, a lot of physical exhaustion, and money in the long run. It may not look exciting to everyone else, but to me it feels like progress.
The store has changed a LOT over the last 2 years. I’ve been paying attention to what both our community and tourists actually need and shop for most, and I’m shifting the store in that direction.
Because of that, The Thrift Barn has changed how donations are accepted. Please inquire before donating, as we are becoming much more selective about what we can realistically use and sell.
A lot of people don’t realize that The Thrift Barn is considered a small business. About 80% of what comes in goes directly back into this building and keeping the store running, and the other 20% goes toward raising my family. I have wonderful friends and children who help me as much as they can. I appreciate all the time they donate to helping me be successful.
Right now, I’m still operating in the negatives and have burned through my savings trying to keep this place going.
So this next stage is about simplifying, lowering expenses, organizing better, and making the store sustainable long term.
Also… produce and flowers will be coming soon again I’ll post the official start date shortly.
If anyone is planning on canning this year, please send me a list of what you’re looking for so I can add it to my ordering list. I’d love to bring in more of what the community actually wants and uses.
I truly appreciate everyone who supports, shops, donates, shares posts, and cheers me on. You have no idea how much it means ❤️
(Posting soon: updated list of items we ARE currently accepting!)
