MAD # 1 CGC 3.0
Yes boys and girls this is MAD Magazine before it was a magazine. Tales Calculated to Drive You MAD!!!! Published by EC Comics, it was the brain-child of the legendary Harvey Kurtzman who edited and wrote it. It was a spoof-driven comic featuring artwork by nearly every EC Comics all-star you can think of, including Wally Wood, Jack Davis, Bill Elder, and John Severin. It wasn't until issue #24 that it became a magazine and became the MAD Magazine we all know and love today. Despite popular belief that they changed formats to avoid the censorship of the Comics Code Authority, they changed formats because Kurtzman had received a huge offer from another magazine and comic books were considered "childish and low-brow," and publisher William Gaines didn't want to lose his star editor. But this book, this comic book is the one that started it all. Own a piece of history today.
