On challenging days, we always keep an eye out for the diamond in the rough, and we sure found it with this crocheted beauty! This is the Diamonds in the Rough Shawl by The Crafty Crochetier, made up using 2 skeins of fi*****ng weight yarn and a 5 mm hook. This would be stunning crocheted up using the Sweet Georgia Tough Love Sock, or the Manos del Uruguay Alegria!

It's FO (finished object) Friday, and we actually have something to share for once!

Heather crashed our Flax Sweater knit along (designed by Tin Can Knits) last year, and chose to knit her sweater from Sandnes Garn Line in a vibrant tomato red. But when she reached approximately 92% done with the sweater with only the body hem to knit (even the SLEEVES were knit holy cow!), on track to finish by Canada Day, she hesitated.

See, this yarn is a cotton, viscose, linen blend, all fibres that are known to stretch like crazy. And this sweater is a raglan-sleeved sweater with no seams to give it some stability. That means she was afraid it would stretch out badly with time and be unwearable.

So she stuffed it in a bag and ignored it for nearly a year.

But she found it again earlier this June, and decided that she might as well finish the silly thing. Might as well try it out, and if she had to rip it all out later? Well, at least she got some use of the thing, and it'd be off the needles.

But you know, her fear was unfounded. She's been practically living in the thing all summer, and it's held up really well! The decision to do the neck band after the body with a firm bindoff was a good idea, giving the body structure. The ribbing has stretched a bit, but considering that this sweater is meant to be a cozy oversized summer sweater, that's not much bother, and an easy fix on a top-down design.

And she even finished it in time for Canada Day! 🇨🇦

We'd highly recommend this yarn, in both the fi*****ng and the worsted weight (which is what Heather used here!) for any summer garments. It's holding up really well and is super breathable for warmer days and cooler rainy ones too!

Sometimes, you just want a simple project out of a luscious yarn that lets that yarn sing. And I think that's exemplified in this store sample.

This is the mini version of the Hitchhiker Shawl, by Megan Behm, knit out of the truly scrumptious Yuan's Hand-Dyed Silky Merino. This single-ply yarn is soft as anything and a deslight to knit. The pattern is easy peasy, with just enough interest to kee0 your attention, and the finished item perfect for shoving into your bag for a cool night when you need a bit of warmth.Honestly, the perfect summer knit!

Last week, we showed off the Sweet Georgia Tough Love Sock we just resticked. This week, I want to show you the crocheted socks that Katelynn is making from it!

New yarn from our friend, Gwen from Black Mask Greeting Card & Gifts in Dawson City is now in stock, and folks, this yarn is stunning!

The yarn itself is milled in Bloomfield, PEI from sheep raised in eastern Canada. The the magic happens in Dawson, where Gwen dyes all of her yarn using natural plant-based dyes! Look at her range of colours!

I've tried my hand at natural dyeing, and let me tell you, she makes a difficult process look easy! The shades she gets are incredible, so don't miss out on your favourite!

We've also restocked her beautiful hand-spun yarn as well, so if you're looking for something very local, you can't beat her hand-spun and naturally hand-dyed yarn!

Along with receiving the Perfect Trifecta DK from Sweet Georgia Yarns, we also got a restock of their Tough Love Socks!

If you haven't seen this yarn before, it's a high twist fi*****ng weight yarn made up of 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon. Between the combination of the nylon and high twist, this yarn will hold up well to wear and tear.

I'm quite in love with the bright summery colours and the deep autumnal shades. Yes, definitely for socks, but this sturdy yarn could be great for sweaters or summer tees, light-weight hats and mittens, shawls, and the sweatest baby items!
