In this 7 week Ceramic Level 1 class, potter Annie Broadhurst will teach all the foundational skills required for wheel throwing, from start to finish. This class includes learning to wedge and centre clay, throwing basic shapes and vessels, and dip glazing. We’ll learn the terminology, techniques, and studio safety so you can keep practicing on your own. Over four sessions, participants will progressively develop their intermediate and advanced throwing skills, with a focus on creating greater height and learning how to shape, move and bend clay with control.
Instructor demonstrations will be followed by guided practice and individual feedback, allowing participants to strengthen their pulls, improve clay distribution, refine rim control and explore more intentional curves and changes in direction. Participants will work with increasingly larger amounts of clay and apply these techniques to taller, more complex forms.
Ceramics Level 2 with Larry DuGuay
Mondays, September 28 - November 9 | 6pm - 9pm (7 sessions)

If you have taken a beginner-level Intro to Pottery course (Ceramics Level 1 or equivalent) and can throw a basic pot, you can enroll in this course. During these next seven weeks, you will refine your skills and begin to develop the control to throw more specific and/or complex forms on the wheel. This is an opportunity to graduate from making simple mugs or bowls to making plates, large bowls, vases, and other tapered forms. As you become more efficient on the wheel, the instructor can work with you one-on-one in specific areas of interest.

This workshop is possible with the generous support of Lotteries Yukon.
In Briny Shrines from the Deep, participants will create assemblage shrines inspired by sea myths, shipwreck relics, and underwater oddities. Using paint, clay, and found objects, students will transform everyday materials into weathered, timeworn reliquaries worthy of Poseidon’s own curio shelf.
