Not every classroom is the same, and not every classroom pet should be either.
Some animals are perfect for quiet observation, while others encourage hands-on learning and spark endless questions. The right classroom companion depends on the age of the students, the learning goals, and the environment.
A colourful betta can introduce students to aquatic ecosystems and daily care routines. A leopard gecko offers opportunities to learn about reptiles, habitats, and adaptations. Stick insects are incredible examples of camouflage and life cycles, while frogs open the door to conversations about amphibians, ecosystems, and environmental change.
If you've been thinking about bringing a classroom animal into your learning space but aren't sure which one would be the best fit, we're here to help. We'll work with you to find an animal that matches your classroom and provide the guidance you need to care for it with confidence.
Send us a message or stop by Exotic Aquatics to learn more about our Classroom Critters Program and find the perfect fit for your students.

When people walk through our doors, they often think they've come to browse a pet store.
What they quickly discover is something much more.
Every animal has a story to tell. Every habitat is an opportunity to learn. Every conversation has the chance to spark a new curiosity. Whether you're choosing your first fish, meeting a reptile you've never seen before, or asking questions about responsible animal care, our goal is to help you leave knowing a little more than when you arrived.
We're passionate about creating a space where people of all ages can explore, learn, and build a deeper appreciation for the incredible diversity of the animal world.
If you haven't visited Exotic Aquatics in a while, stop in and see what's new. We'd love to introduce you to some of our amazing animals and help you discover something unexpected.

Creature of the Week: The Leopard Gecko
If you've ever met a Leopard Gecko, you know they have a way of winning people over. Curious, gentle, and full of personality, they're one of our favourite reptiles to introduce to families and first-time reptile owners.
Originally from the dry deserts of Asia and the Middle East, Leopard Geckos are known for their spotted patterns, expressive eyes, and surprisingly calm nature. Unlike many geckos, they don't climb walls—instead, they explore the ground, making them fascinating to watch as they hunt, explore, and interact with their environment.
One of our favourite facts? If they ever feel threatened, they can drop their tail as a defense mechanism—and over time, it actually grows back!
Whether you're considering one as a pet or simply love learning about wildlife, Leopard Geckos are a wonderful reminder that every species has its own incredible story.
Have you ever met a Leopard Gecko before? Tell us in the comments—or better yet, come meet one in person at Exotic Aquatics! 🦎

Homeschooling gives families the freedom to learn beyond the pages of a workbook, and some of the best lessons happen when children can experience them firsthand.
Watching a gecko hunt for food, observing a stick insect's camouflage, or learning how an aquarium becomes its own little ecosystem turns science into something children can see, ask questions about, and remember.
This fall, we're exploring new ways to support homeschool families with hands-on animal education and learning opportunities here at Exotic Aquatics. Whether you're looking for ideas to enrich your curriculum or you're interested in learning alongside your children, we'd love to hear what would be most valuable to your family.
If you're part of the homeschool community, leave us a comment or send us a message. We'd love to build something that inspires curiosity and makes learning come alive.

What if your classroom had a living science lesson every single day?
There is something incredible that happens when children have the opportunity to care for a living animal. They ask more questions, make more observations, develop a sense of responsibility, and become genuinely excited to learn. Concepts like habitats, life cycles, behaviour, and ecosystems suddenly become something they can see and experience firsthand instead of simply reading about in a textbook.
At Exotic Aquatics, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens through curiosity, and we're excited to help bring that experience into local classrooms.

Coming this fall: Classroom Critters at Exotic Aquatics.
If you're a teacher, school, daycare, or educational program interested in learning more, send us a message. We'd love to chat.
