🔥 Prescribed fire training is returning to the Columbia Valley this September.

We’re pleased to share that the Kootenay ʔa·kinq̓uku Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (TREX) will once again take place in the Canal Flats area, bringing together partners to learn, build capacity and support prescribed fire work on ʔamakʔis Ktunaxa.

This is an important opportunity to strengthen local knowledge, experience and partnerships around fire stewardship.

We’re grateful to see this work continuing on the land.

The third Kootenay ʔa·kinq̓uku Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (TREX) is just around the corner. Participants will arrive in the Kootenays for another fall of burning and learning on September 13.

TREX is a place-based learning opportunity that focuses on building experience through live prescribed fire projects. Working together in this way, we can share knowledge and build the capacity we need for more prescribed fire in B.C., while supporting the completion of projects.

This year, Kootenay ʔa·kinq̓uku TREX will be held in the Canal Flats area of B.C., delivered in partnership with Ktunaxa First Nation, with support from the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society and UBC Okanagan’s Canadian Prescribed Fire Training Program.

Please note that the ʔAkisq̓nuk Fishing Camp, originally scheduled for September 24 to 27, 2026 at Kinbasket Reservoir, has been postponed.

We know many ʔAkisq̓nuknik were looking forward to spending time together, sharing knowledge and fishing as a community, and we appreciate your understanding.

A new date has not yet been confirmed. We will share updated information once plans are finalized.

🐟 Salmon Festival is almost here!

Join us on Saturday, September 12 at James Chabot Park in Invermere for a day of culture, community and celebration.

The day begins with the Canoe Brigade at 9:00 AM, followed by singers and drummers at 10:00 AM.

Representatives from the Canada Revenue Agency and Service Canada will be at the ʔAkisq̓nuk Columbia Lake Recreation Centre, Board Room to help members learn more about the benefits, credits, pensions, programs and services they may be entitled to.
