Canada Post will continue to operate, but customers should anticipate delays in the event of strike activity
As you know, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) will be in a legal position to begin strike activity on November 15 at 12:01 am ET, unless the parties reach agreements before then.
In the event of rotating strikes by CUPW, we will continue delivering and make every effort to minimize service disruptions. However, your business should be prepared for possible delays in the processing and delivery of mail and parcels.
We want you to be aware of what strike activity will mean for our operations and your business.
What you should expect during a rotating strike
Our operations will continue should rotating strikes occur.
Rotating strike activity may be isolated to specific locations, affecting those areas for a specified period of time.
During a rotating strike, Canada Post will continue to accept, process and deliver mail and parcels in unaffected areas. However, shutting down facilities or regions with rotating strikes can cause immediate ripple effects throughout the network.
Once an item is inducted in our network, it will be secure but cannot be retrieved. Items will be delivered as quickly as possible after a disruption is over and operations resume.
What you should expect during a national labour disruption
In the event of a national labour disruption, mail and parcels will not be delivered and no new items will be accepted until the disruption is over. All mail and parcels in our network will be secured and delivered as quickly as possible on a first-in, first-out basis once operations resume.
Processing and delivery may take some time to fully return to normal following either a rotating strike or a national labour disruption.
Service guarantees
On-time delivery guarantees for parcel services remain in effect. However, they may be temporarily suspended for items that are processed or delivered in areas affected by a labour disruption. We will notify you if on-time delivery guarantees are suspended more broadly.
Due to the uncertainty caused by possible strike activity, we will be suspending date-specific delivery for Neighbourhood Mailâ„¢ mailings. We will notify you when date-specific delivery is reinstated.
Stay up to date
We value the trust you place in us to deliver for your business, and we are committed to providing you with timely updates and the details you need to make informed decisions.
We will notify you if there is a labour disruption of any kind, and keep you updated as the situation develops. You can also continue to visit canadapost.ca/negotiations for regular updates on negotiations and a list of locations affected by strike activity.
